How do I build in my cooktop?

Installing a cooktop is not a difficult job, but it does require some attention. Below, you can read how to properly install your cooktop.

In short

  • What are we going to do? Install a cooktop.
  • For which appliances is this explanation suitable? All built-in cooktops.
  • How long does it take? About half an hour.
  • What kind of tools do we need? At least a screwdriver. For gas cooktops, you'll also need a wrench. With some cooktops, you also need a knife to cut off the sealing tape.
  • What do we need for connection material? For a gas cooktop, we need a gas hose, gas tape, and a gas connector. With an electric cooktop, we need a 5-core connection cable, and a Perilex connector.

Preparation

The explanation I give below is generalized. That means the installation of your cooktop may differ slightly from what is stated below. That's why you should always follow the included manual. Is it not working, or are you afraid to connect the gas or electricity? Then choose our installation service.

Removing the old cooktop

Before your new cooktop can be put in, you'll first have to remove the old cooktop.

Step 1: disconnect the gas and electricity With a gas cooktop, you must first turn off the gas valve. Now disconnect the gas hose and pull the connection cable out of the socket. In the case of an electric cooktop, it's only a matter of pulling the connector out of the socket.

Step 2: lift the cooktop out of the recess Before removing the cooktop from the recess, first make sure that it's not attached to the bottom of your kitchen counter with clamps. If this is the case, first release the clamps. Next, lift the cooktop out of the recess by pushing it out from below.

Installing a gas cooktop

Step 1: connect the gas hose to the cooktop Before you place the cooktop in the recess, first attach the gas hose. When the cooktop is in the kitchen counter, it's difficult to reach it.

Step 2: place the sealing tape Place the sealing tape that should come between the cooktop and the kitchen counter. This tape ensures that no water can flow under the cooktop.

Step 3: place the cooktop in the recess Now lower the cooktop into the recess. It's important that the cooktop is flat so that the edges, using the sealing tape, fit well into the kitchen counter. You don't need any sealant, and it's not recommended either. If you want to remove the cooktop, the sealant could damage both the cooktop and the kitchen counter.

Step 4: secure the cooktop A number of mounts, usually 4, are included with the cooktop to secure it. Use the pre-drilled holes on the cooktop to clamp the cooktop to the kitchen counter using the mounts.

Step 5: connect the gas hose to the gas tap Now connect the gas hose to the gas tap. Make sure it's properly secured.

Step 6: plug in the connector If your cooktop is equipped with an electronic spark ignition, it also has a connector. Plug it into the socket and you'll be done with the installation of your gas cooktop.

Installing an electric cooktop

Step 1: connect the connection cable to the cooktop Before placing the cooktop in the recess, first attach the connection cable and connector. When the cooktop is in the kitchen counter, it's difficult to reach it.

Step 2: place the sealing tape Place the sealing tape on the cooktop if it's not already on it. This tape ensures that no water can flow under the cooktop.

Step 3: place the cooktop into the recess Now lower the cooktop into the recess. It's important that the cooktop is flat so that the edges, using the sealing tape, fit well into the kitchen counter. You don't need any sealant, and it's not recommended either. If you want to remove the cooktop, the sealant could damage both the cooktop and the kitchen counter.

Step 4: secure the cooktop This step is only necessary if your cooktop is fitted with clamps to hold the cooktop in place. For many induction cooktops, this isn't necessary because the weight and resistance keep the cooktop in place without any problems.

Step 5: plug in the connector Now plug the connector into the socket.
