Strong noise canceling
The main reason to buy the Bose QuietComfort 35 or the Sony WH-1000XM3 is the active noise canceling. The noise canceling of the QuietComfort is very effective. Once you put on the headphones, it feels like your ears are plugged. You'll no longer hear the sound of the train or a colleague typing next to you.
Different modes of noise canceling
Like the Bose QuietComfort 35, the Sony WH-1000XM3 has active noise canceling. In addition, these Sony headphones have 2 modes to amplify ambient noise. In Normal Mode, you'll hear the sound just as you would if you weren't wearing headphones. With Voice Mode, you can hear the voices of people around you better.
Quiet listening experience
The Bose QuietComfort35 has a clear sound that's pleasant for a quiet listening experience. When the battery is empty, or if you switch off noise canceling, this adversely affects the sound quality. The battery lasts up to 20 hours with noise canceling switched on.
Detailed listening experience
The Sony WH-1000XM3 has a more powerful sound compared to the QuietComfort 35. The bass is heavy, and you can adjust the sound to your liking via the equalizer in the Sony Headphones Connect app. The battery lasts up to 30 hours with noise canceling switched on and up to 38 hours with noise canceling switched off.
You control your music with the buttons on the right ear cup of the QuietComfort. You can adjust the volume, change songs, and pause the music. Use the Bose Connect app to control your music from your smartphone or tablet. This app also allows you to install software updates and change settings.
In the case of the Sony WH-1000XM3, you control the music via the touch pad on the right ear cup. By swiping up, down, left, or right, you adjust the volume and go to the next or previous song. You can pause the music by tapping the touch pad twice.
The Bose headphones are lightweight and have very soft ear cushions. Thanks to the deep ear cups, your ears won't come into contact with the headphones' interior. This means you can listen to music for a long time. The inner headband is soft, so it's not too tight.
The Sony headphones are comfortable if you don't plan to listen to music more than 2 hours. With long-term use, your ears start to hurt. This is mainly because the drivers come into contact with your ears. With the Bose headphones, the space between the drivers and your ears is bigger, so no contact takes place.
