The JBL BAR 1300 is a good surround soundbar that comes into its own in movies, games and music.
When listening to news, documentaries, YouTube or talk shows, I find the speech very disappointing. This one sounds very shrill and tinny in my opinion, even distorted at times in my opinion.
I tried to adjust this via the equalizer, but unfortunately I was not able to get a really pleasant adjustment. Perhaps a matter of getting used to since the previous 'setup' consisted of two column speakers and a receiver.
What I really like about the JBL Bar 1300 is the wireless subwoofer. It adds an extra dimension to the sound and provides a powerful bass that pulls you completely into the movie or game. It's amazing how much difference a good subwoofer can make. This also does not feel dominant at all if properly adjusted via the JBL One app.
About this app: Setting up the soundbar was smooth and easy, and you are guided through the calibration process on first use. You can also set the equalizer here and there is a built-in remote control.
Software updates (of the soundbar) are automatically updated in the background.
The design looks a bit old-fashioned, but that's personal.
The option to use the side speakers separately from the main unit is a very nice addition. These can be used alone or in stereo. Ideal for the terrace / balcony in the summer, or if you are doing odd jobs in the garage and need some music.
To conclude: the JBL Bar 1300 is a great soundbar in a compact size that does not fall short in its class, but it does have a point of attention, but that should not spoil the fun in general.
