Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Kit

This kit contains a few nice items, such as a small Gerber multi-tool, a fire starter, a piece of rope, wire for setting traps, a heliograph, and a set of waterproof matches.

I'm not really convinced by the quality of the wire saw (doesn't feel very robust) and the small flashlight (virtually no light output), but the majority of the products in this kit are of good quality (even the emergency whistle). The same goes for the aluminum blanket: it can certainly be used in an emergency, but the blanket in this kit is very thin compared to other blankets on the market.

Particularly nice is the small "Priorities of Survival" guidebook (a large fold-out sheet, which appears to be printed on a laminated paper or plastic, and which describes some basic survival techniques. The small, foldable size makes this guidebook easy to store and take it anywhere.

Very useful that the products are not only in a case, but also in a very sturdy, water-repellent plastic cover. A panel with emergency signals is sewn on the back of the case: not only is this very useful in an emergency situation, but it is also useful that the space in the case has been used so well.

The bottom line is that you get some very high quality and some lesser products in this kit. Overall, I am satisfied. I don't think I'd be happy to rely solely on this kit in an emergency, but it's certainly not a bad purchase, and the lesser products themselves can of course be replaced with others. I think this kit can form a good basis for making your own survival kit: it makes a difference that this kit combines a number of products that would otherwise have to be purchased separately.

The idea is very good, but some products are not so good quality. It is an ideal bag to replenish yourself. For example, cotton wool with Vaseline, extra string, etc... The flashlight is of lesser quality and the amount of tinder could also be better. All in all a nice start to expand yourself.

I bought this survival kit to satisfy the boy scout in me: "be prepared!"

The kit is a nice start with all kinds of frills to help you in emergency situations. It is light and compact and can therefore always be taken with you (except on the plane, because it comes with a knife). I always have this set in my bag. But for those seriously afraid of getting lost, it is wiser to purchase the contents of this kit separately and put it together yourself.

In any case, the plastic bag it comes in is not waterproof. I squeeze air out with ease, so no way that no water can get in. In addition, most of the stuff is of moderate quality. The flashlight cannot be turned off once you have clicked it. So if you want to experiment with your kit, I'd stay away from it. Plus, it's an LED with a button cell. Worth nothing unfortunately.

The other stuff is OK in quality. If you know what you need, things like wire, buttons, a wire saw, matches, etc. are better just to buy separately.

It is better to leave the fishing gear that comes with it out. Unless you can fish of course. Because if you have to learn it from three separate hooks and a piece of rope, I guarantee you a lot: but no fish.

But the enclosed leaflet with tips can be useful to keep a cool head and it remains a nice complete set. It is therefore a good (and quick start) for those who want to be well prepared on the road. But add and replace, otherwise you won't get very far.
