According to our bike navigation expert
Discover new routes with the Garmin Edge Explore 1000. This extensive bike navigation has maps from all over Europe. Indicate how many kilometers you plan to bike, which direction you want to go, and how high you want to go. The bike navigation then compiles 3 different routes. With the Surprise Me function, the navigation system surprises you with interesting routes. Are you in trouble, or have you been involved in an accident? The Edge Explore 1000 detects incidents and automatically sends warnings to a designated contact person. To use this, you need to connect your smartphone via Bluetooth, so that notifications can also be seen on the display. Do you prefer to bike with the aim of improving your performance? Via ANT+, you can connect heart rate, cadence, and speed sensors to measure more data. View your sports performance with the Garmin Connect app.

my previous bike gps was a garmin edge 800 which I have now replaced by the edge 1000 explore because the battery was worn out and I found the repair too expensive was actually already planning to blur him. also have a garmin gpsmap 62 stc walking gps. So I'm used to working with Garmin GPS devices.
I especially wanted a device with a larger screen than the edge 800, which I found a bit small, so the edge 810 was not an option as a successor for me the edge 1000 explore has a much clearer screen and also works faster. it seems the explore has fewer sports functions than the edge 1000 but for me it is more than complete enough and i am a cycling tourist. it also has wifi and bluetooth and even accident detection. very nice all but this significantly reduces the battery life so I don't use it while cycling. Garmin claims that the autonomy is 15h but in practice this is much less. 8-9h without wifi and bluetooth and 5h with with wifi and bluetooth normally you can cycle something of 150 km if you plan to cycle longer I would bring a power bank just to be sure that you can recharge it on the way during a drink or food stop when I train I also use the remote control but will not use it on a cycling holiday to extend the battery life and also because I then use my heart rate belt on a cycling holiday. and it also reduces battery life. I find the supplied remote control practical. the holder with extended arm also comes in handy and a protective cover is also included. a lot is included as standard which is a plus. my edge 800 heart rate belt is also compatible with the 1000 explore. the only drawback I have with the larger egde 1000 explore is that it takes up a lot of space on my handlebars, especially if I use the holder with an extended arm and I no longer have room to put my Lezyne bicycle lamp on the handlebars I have to use the normal holder with the racks and put it on the left handlebar and then I still have room for a bicycle lamp. what he sometimes does is when I'm driving a race and grab you still have to drive 50 km to destination and I stop the ride for a while and then I start the ride back then suddenly at 5440 km to destination.
my choice in cycling and walking gps devices mainly goes to garmin because they are the only ones where you can expand the maps mio will probably also have good devices but has no ability to add additional cards.

Already had a garmin vista hcx but this one is noticeably better. However, it has too many functions for someone who cycles recreationally with, for example, an e-bike. This one nevertheless opted for the size of the screen. Has a good fixation on the handlebars, sturdy. Accident warning is a nice bonus, but whether this is really useful is another matter.
