According to our robot vacuum expert
While you're asleep or watching your favorite series, the LG VSR8604PG Hom-Bot quietly makes its way around your house and removes all the dirt from the floors. With a noise level of 60 decibels, you'll barely hear this robot vacuum. No need to worry when you let it run while you're out. The collision sensors prevents it from bumping into your furniture so your house won't be a mess when you return. This robot vacuum is self-learning and will remember all obstacles and hurdles in your room. Do you want the robot vacuum to take the same path every day? Simply program it for the entire week, and you'll have peace of mind. There are several cleaning programs to choose from, depending on the floor type that needs to be cleaned.

Once upon a time.. Jacques has been part of our family for about 3 weeks now. Our family consists of my fiancé, our cat Appa and myself. Jacques is named after the shrimp from Finding Nemo who likes to clean, since we are fairly Disney-minded in the house :) For further information; We live in a ground floor apartment of which the ground floor covers about 75m2, which consists of a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and toilet. We also have a living cellar of over 20m3.
Why Jacques? Well, let's be honest, vacuuming is often a neglected child. We don't do it often enough, especially with a cat in the house. And yet it would be nice if the house was vacuumed more often. And those leprechauns don't do it either. As a gadget enthusiast, the idea of a robot vacuum cleaner came to me fairly quickly. Not with my fiancé, who thought 'what can you do with such a thing, it doesn't work'. Fortunately I can inform you that she is now finished and Jacques can no longer be missed :)
And then why this LG? Actually, after a long research into what would be good now and what do we need, this one came out as a good option for us. The fact that he also had a temporary 75,- euro bonus discount also counted :) Of course you can go a lot more expensive and also cheaper. But more expensive offered no real added value in my opinion. Well, controlling with your smartphone and putting in a whole week program etc. is nice, but I didn't think it was worth paying more than 200 euros for that option. And cheaper then? Yes, I think it would have been an option. But because we initially thought of vacuuming independently when we are not at home and can therefore charge in between and work with a timer, that was not really an option. In addition, the newer technology in the field of recognition of spaces, etc. also played a part in my choice. I had no experience with it yet, but a friend of mine has an older roomba and could report that it often suffered from skipping spots etc. I must say that I do not suffer from that. He takes care of everything thoroughly. Although I can't always trace his logic :)
Turbo fashion and carpet What Jacques also owns is an (automatic) turbo mode. It is activated when he cleans carpets and rugs, etc. This works very well for low-pile carpet. Our bedroom has low-pile carpet, so the turbo setting is constantly on. It makes it visibly cleaner than we used to manage with the vacuum cleaner itself, and you can see that in the collection bin! It's a bit confrontational sometimes... but on the other hand, he also goes all the way under the bed where that didn't happen before! We have a low-pile carpet in the living room and that works fine too. Only in the hall does he have some trouble. There is a bit thicker and higher-pile floor covering which is a bit too much for Jacques. Most of it goes well, but the piece at the front door gets stuck for some reason. Then it keeps running and at some point wants to go home.
Don't vacuum when you're away from home? The ideal image I had was to let Jacques have his way with a timer while we are at work. But that turns out differently than expected. It may still change, but it actually works really well that way. Note that you have all (smaller) spaces that you close. At least we do. The living room with dining area is somewhat larger and that is where the base station is located. You also need that station if Jacques has to recharge in the meantime. What we find out, however, is that Jacques doesn't make that much noise (turbo setting is a bit more, but is limited to the hall, bedroom and basement) and that he is actually finished with the space in 5 to 10 minutes. Then you don't have to recharge in between and setting a timer etc is also a bit excessive. The whole house is ready in half an hour and then his battery is still half full, so well .. why bother.
All great? Is Jacques really great then? To be brief; New. Of course, as you will find out, he also has his idiosyncrasies and customs. The drip tray fills up fairly quickly. After 1 room, especially if you haven't vacuumed for a while, it is actually full. In itself logical, because he is not that big. And fortunately, the container can be emptied in no time, an easy action, but you have to think about it. Another thing to keep in mind is that Jacques is a bit clumsy with smaller objects on the floor. If you have a candlestick in the middle of the room, I would temporarily put it on the table, because Jacques doesn't see it very well and pushes it aside. Jacques also has a large brush under him with which he can clean really well. Note, however, that it needs to be cleaned fairly frequently because longer hairs, of course from fiancee and cat ;) , get stuck in it and can form a whole web. They have provided a small brush for this that works fine to remove this. Finally, you should keep in mind that you will have to lift Jacques from room to room to do his job. You can't say just go to the bedroom. It is not very heavy, but perhaps a point of attention for someone who does not think about it.
happy? Happy! Overall I have to say that Jacques is great. If you're ready to allow a little family expansion, this is a great choice. It costs a bit more than an average vacuum cleaner, although a Dyson like that is also a lot of money, but you have to worry about it much less and, at least for me, you are also more inclined to use it. Put it in a room, press start and enjoy reading the newspaper, playing games, watching a movie, or the like. It is also a nice playmate for your cat. Our Appa still thinks he's a little scary, but they will probably become friends :)

A robot vacuum cleaner seemed like the ultimate dream to me, I really hate vacuuming, so the idea that I wouldn't have to do that anymore made me very happy. However, nothing could be further from the truth... I would absolutely not recommend this device for the following reasons: I can't leave him alone (like a little kid) because he keeps getting stuck. I have cleared my floor as much as possible of small things (cat toys, cables, food bowls), because it will get stuck on them anyway, but that doesn't seem enough. The vacuum cleaner fits under my couch, but gets stuck at a certain point and then keeps trying to go past it, leaving huge scratches on the device, and I have to crawl under the couch every time to get it out of there. to fetch. There doesn't seem to be a way to get him to skip the piece under the couch. So hopeless. When I put it across the room to start it there, it gets stuck on the star-shaped leg of my swivel chair. He thinks he has to go over it, keeps trying, with the result that the wheels go off the ground and he hangs on it again...
The suction power itself is fine, it detects itself whether it is on a smooth floor or carpet, and adjusts its suction power accordingly. If you have (not too high) thresholds in your house (+/- 1.5 cm max) then he will go over them. It is very easy to use, press start and it goes.
