According to our projector expert
If you're looking for a projector for your home theater, the BenQ W1700 is perfect for you. This projector supports 4K or HDR content. Every detail is clearly visible, and the colors are displayed with a lot of depth and realism. The design is equipped with 2 HDMI inputs, allowing you to connect 2 devices at the same time without having to constantly switch cables. Some examples are a console and a digital decoder. If you don't have speakers to connect the projector to, the integrated 5-watt speakers allow you to listen to vocals, effects, and soundtracks.

After 8 years of looking at a Mitsubishi HC 1500 hd ready, it was time for a new projector. The lamp was never replaced and still worked well, or so it seemed until the W 1700 took its place. Splash clear image, its sharp and great colors.
The 2200 lumens are more than sufficient, the Mitsubishi had 1500. Personally I think the Benq performs best in eco mode,
Normal mode is overdone in terms of brightness in a darkened room. In addition, the fan can be set a notch lower in eco mode and is then barely audible. In eco mode, the lamp also lasts another 10,000 hours. With 3 hours a day you can look more than 9 years ahead.
You can also see well in daylight, but then you miss contrast. No projector can display black colors on a white surface and for a good display of Men in Black the curtains have to be closed, which is why there are no fluorescent lights in the cinema.
Installation was child's play, for ceiling mounting the comprehensive manual provides a table for the minimum and maximum distances. The remote control has back light on the keys, very useful in the dark. The menu runs smoothly and I did not need the manual for the installation. With the grid test image it is easy to set the projection size, keystone correction was automatic.
The zoom range is limited, I had to move my mount because the projection field was too large. The manual can be downloaded in PDF from Benq so that you can read it first and determine whether the location for the beamer corresponds to the size of the room.
After a lot of research on the net and reviews I believe that I really bought the right projector, the last choice was this or the Optoma UHD 550X which is almost twice as big and heavy and is not 4k natively, the Benq is.
Use at least an HDMI 2 cable or a cable with 4k support when installing, my old cable could not handle the resolution. Techlink is a good affordable choice and is also available from our blue friends.
I can recommend this 4K projector to any discerning viewer. It is important that the media equipment, the cables and certainly the files you play are of good quality.
In short, a top beamer in an affordable price range. Benq, CHAPEAU!

I wanted a 4K beamer but with 3D which makes this beamer quite unique. It is also a compact projector, so you can easily hang it up. The downsides: due to the DLP chip used, an illuminated frame can be seen around the projected image. The beamer is also not really quiet, but just acceptable. However, these drawbacks do not outweigh the beautiful image and the 3D option that you get for a fairly low price. Another remark; 4K expects a higher quality HDMI cable, especially for cables of > 5 meters.

The beamer scores well on Full HD UHD/4K for the offered price. With the 'correct ceiling mount' Celexon PS Ultraflat, the keystone correction is 0 on a 120" screen. A decent HDMI cable is definitely a must (AudioQuest Pearl 8m. or XXL Carb Connect MKII 750 7.5m.) Upgrade from BenQ w1400.
