According to our robot lawn mower expert
The McCulloch ROB1000 is a suitable robot lawn mower for lawns up to 1,000m². It'll mow your lawn to a height of 20 to 50 millimeters, in strips of 17 centimeters in width. The mower comes with collision sensors and distance sensors, so it can smoothly move around your garden. The battery lasts more than an hour, but should it still run out while mowing, the robot lawn mower will return to the base station to recharge automatically. After charging for 50 minutes, it'll resume its mowing program. You don't have to worry about leaving your robot lawn mower in the garden, because it comes with anti-theft protection. This way, you make sure that the ROB1000 only takes care of your lawn.

Grobo McCulloch Reaper. That's how we named him. He is our children's best friend and would wear a kilt and play bagpipes if he could. We think he has a personality of his own. Sometimes it seems like he's coming at us on purpose...
No idea if it's a Scottish brand, but it sure sounds like it. Hence the crazy name :)
This mowing robot does its job well. The grass is always nicely trimmed everywhere and if you turn it off for a few days you will soon notice the difference.
Although he drives around randomly (and thus does the same places several times while forgetting others), all the grass is still well trimmed. What he does too little one time, he does too much the next, and that's how it works out.
Setting up is not difficult, but it is a job. You need to stretch a thread around your domain. You don't have to block off large objects that he can just bump into, but you should definitely block off places where he could get stuck or damage his knives. This is quite a job with a garden of 900m². In the end we only have about 500m² of grass, but we do have some detours. We let it work for 8 hours a day (which corresponds to 4-5 trips out). We let him ride for a while (every two days) but that wasn't enough.
It is true that during the first weeks he occasionally cut his own wire, although I thought that it was really enough against the ground. You can easily fix that wire with a luster clamp (although they say in the manual that you have to weld it). It is also a bit of adjustment here and there because he sometimes gets stuck in a spot that you hadn't really seen. But after a few weeks, that is all resolved and he continues to work without hesitation.
He has become our new pet, got his own name and hopefully will last a long time.
We are very satisfied with this purchase.

Certainly cannot mow 1000 m2 on a non-rectangular lawn. eg. a lawn around an open building.

Simple installation. Sufficient supplies included...if I had included the guidewire. After about 2 weeks he had everything in the garden. Robot is quite heavy, so he often drives over small bumps.
