Our Denon dm-39 micro chain (also for sale here) was a bit short of breath when reproducing the tones below 100hz. The chain has a separate sub output for a subwoofer, so connecting with the supplied cinch cable is a piece of cake. In our view better than the modern piano lacquer dust magnets. Rubber discs are even included as feet. Keep in mind that this is not a dwarf, on the other hand it can also be heard through the full bass. If you set the volume in such a way that the subwoofer almost unnoticed supplements the small speakers, you will certainly not be bothered by disturbing rumbles. This simple Yamaha succeeds well in producing a full, warm bass. I had my doubts, it turns out they were wrong. We use our micro chain for playback of Classical music as well as Hard Rock and Pop. This subwoofer is also a plus if you want to give the sound of a flat screen TV some body through your stereo. It is a pity that there is no standby function on the subwoofer, Simply with power on, and without playing music, the consumption is already 6.3 watts. That is a standby consumption of an old picture tube TV from the time when there was no green electricity. Power and Volume button are on the back, along with the power LED. So you don't see that it stays up. The LED has a bundled beam of light, if the subwoofer is not too far from a wall, you can see from the reflection on the wall that you have forgotten it again :) The power button is rather low on the back, it's always a bit of blind groping to find it. If you do not have a separate subwoofer or preamp out on your amplifier, I think it is wiser to ignore this subwoofer. Conclusion: great value for money and really good.
