According to our rowing machine expert
The WaterRower A1 Ash is the WaterRower starter model rowing machine. Thanks to the water element, rowing on this machine feels the same as in the water. That's because you increase the resistance when you row faster, and decrease it when you row slower. In addition, the swirling water gives off a soft, relaxing sound. While you row, you can see your progress on the A1 monitor. The A1 Ash has a monorail to row on, so it feels a bit less stable than the WaterRower rowing machines with a double rail. After use, you can easily stand the rowing machine upright, so it doesn't take up a lot of space.
Note: you have to assemble this product yourself when you receive it.

This is a beautiful rowing machine. I debated between the Concept2 and the WaterRower for a long time and tried both. For me the choice fell on the WaterRower -> the decisive factor was that the rowing itself felt more natural and that it was quieter. Both the rowing belt is quieter (compared to the Concept2 chain) and the water resistance. On the Concept2 you are still more 'saws'. You can use the WaterRower in the evening while the kids are sleeping.
Ultimately I want to row a few km / or a few minutes every other day and an extensive measuring program with heart rate, etc. was less important to me. The measuring program does measure everything you need such as strokes/min, wattage, you can set a distance or a minimum time.

rows very pleasantly, beautiful design. Assembly is not that easy (takes longer than 15 min :-)) the screw thread on the footboard was only 2-3mm to get in (even after unscrewing the top screws) to give more clearance. Not so important for stability and tilting, but I don't think it's possible for such a top product. If you ask €1000 for a rower EVERYTHING has to be perfect without discussion. It is not visible that a screw is now half sticking out.

It's nice to "row" on. You're not trying to keep a nasty-sounding flywheel going. Sound of water is an extra dimension.
