According to our Bluetooth speaker expert
With the JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth speaker, you'll always have something to listen to. Connect 3 smartphones simultaneously using Bluetooth. The battery lasts up to 20 hours, so don't be afraid to listen to several of your favorite albums, a DJ set or playlist. Thanks to the dust and splash proof design this speaker is also suitable for outdoor use. The double passive radiators in the speaker let you see, hear, and feel the bass sound. Use JBL Connect to connect multiple JBL speakers to each other. You can also use the speaker to charge your smartphone or tablet while listening to music. Got a call to answer? No problem, use the Charge 3 to accept the call and talk hands-free.

After having provided my very modest man cave with some speaker power (wired), I realized that my Huawei Mediapad, equipped with speaker holes 'designed by Harmon/Kardon', still sounded quite flat. My P9 lacked even more punch.
For five, six or even more years I was still satisfied with my X-Mini (Google it!), the size of a euro and something that looked like bass came out mah these days people are a bit more ordinary and I was looking for something with a little more ambition.
I was looking for something wireless, reasonable in size, possibly with some nice extras, especially fast to link to multiple devices and it didn't necessarily have to be room-filling. Something you can carry with your pad or smartphone, anywhere and something or a bit robust.
So wireless for starters. Either you go WiFi or Bluetooth (Blue for some). In a nutshell... do you want to control the music in your house per room and with apps... go WiFi. Do you just want to hang a tablet or smartphone (or several in the case of this JBL)) on a speaker that plays everything you do on that thing... go Bluetooth. There are exceptions mah this is usually what you can expect.
Okay, so bluetooth. After some in-depth research (ie. this Charge 3 just looked the best) I came across the JBL Charge 3. After ordering, it was delivered 2 days earlier by CoolBlue. No idea how many people they have there in their warehouse, but they don't sit still.
Packaging says a lot and this JBL doesn't hold its breath. Magnet clips, panoramic views, layer after layer packaging, it's all top-notch. And so is the speaker, straight out of the box it was 3 quarters charged. No manual required, turn on your bluetooth on your tablet or smartphone and connect. That's really absolutely all you need to do with this thing. Manual is completely pointless. Speaker for noobs. Ideal!
Sound is fine, I'm not really an audiophile, but let's face it, an audiophile doesn't buy stuff in this segment. The JBL has no tubes, no gold plated connections and certainly no superlative of bluetooth. It really does what it's supposed to do and for its size it does even more than that for my part.
I listen to a truckload (truckload sounds so much better) from different genres. Especially many types of metal mah I'm not averse to things made in the years that I grew up. 70's, 80's (nah, not really), 90's, the years before I was ever mentioned... 50's, 60's. Classic stuff as much as the more intelligent dance muzak.
The Charge 3 performs well to very well across the collection. For some brutal/tech death songs I even thought the bass had something to do with it, for the rest of metal, a lot of dark tech, rap and 60's, 70's classics it was more than reasonable. Looking across the genres, big hit. Bass is really enough. ;) Surprisingly for a thing of this magnitude.
The fun stuff... this thing's battery is epic. They claim 20 hours of playing time, not tested for the time being because I still play on the original charge, but I like to believe them. Even better, it's a 6000 mAh power bank. Good for charging your smartphone once or twice. Remember, charging and playing through the speaker at the same time. I still have a 14000 mAh power bank from TP-Link and although very handy, it doesn't produce a note of music. I think a speaker that can charge your mobile is a big plus.
The finger licking stuff. It is perfectly possible to hang several of these Charge 3 speakers on your tablet, mobile, whatever. No idea if you want to equip your entire house/beach/garden with these speakers, but it is possible. Does es crazy.
Especially a lot of potential to provide your garden with sound including your swimming pool because it is IPX7 ie. you can drown him for half an hour at 1 meter deep. Oh, a big plus... you can hang up to 3 tablets, phones whatever on one speaker. Seems obvious but it's not in the real world. This was even one of my must-haves.
Siri and Google's Now counterpart are also not averse to this speaker. There is a mic in it (true story) and there is even a JBL app that can update this speaker if necessary. Not tested, mah I like to believe them. It's in the little things. ;)
In short, the thing has a lot (too much) oomph, lasts endlessly, you can drown it but most of all, listen to music with it. Plus, it can charge your smartphone. Ah yes, JBL is fairly owned by Harmon. More bling bling. Enjoy!
Only downside... Coolblue's 'images' option can be improved to say the least.
Anyways, cat, thinks that speaker is way too small. ;) http://www.borkborkbork.org/jabba-charge3.jpg
