According to our headphones expert
The Sony MDR-XB950N1 are over-ear headphones that allow you to enjoy music wirelessly. Because you stream the music via Bluetooth, you will not be bothered by cables that get in the way. Press the Extra Bass button and make the bass sound even more powerful. With the Sony Connect app, you can further adjust the bass level via your smartphone. The active noise canceling lightly muffles disturbing ambient noise. The battery lasts up to 22 hours, even when the noise canceling and Extra Bass are switched on.
Note: the noise canceling of these headphones only reduces ambient noise to a limited extent.

I've had these headphones for almost a week now and I must say I'm positively surprised! After a fairly long search, I finally came across this one, the Sony MDR-XB950N1. I chose this one mainly because I want good sound quality and I don't want to be stuck with such an ugly thing. The headphones should also be comfortable. I can already tick all this off with these headphones, and you also immediately get a lot of extras that are very handy. Such as the bass boost feature, something for which this series of headphones is known. Because I like a lot of bass, I usually leave this function on. You can also fold the headphones or rotate the ear cups. You can then easily take it with you with the included storage bag or put it in a backpack, so that it takes up less space and breaks less quickly. But this handy addition is also one of my biggest concerns for these headphones. There are many reports circulating on the internet that these headphones, along with its siblings (XB950B1 and XB950BT), quickly break where the earcups rotate. I gave Sony the benefit of the doubt and ordered them anyway, partly because I have a little more confidence in them because I ordered from Coolblue, where customer service will certainly be able to help me handle this correctly, if this were to happen.
If I can say something more about the design, it is that these headphones look nice and sturdy. The green color is rather subtle yet elegant. It's also something different than all that black you see these days. The choice for micro-USB is regrettable, but understandable given the release date of this product. The headphones are quite large, especially the ear cups. this of course ensures that ambient noises are kept out and your bystanders are not annoyed by your music. This also brings us to the next topic: noise canceling. Noise canceling, or noise suppression, is a technique in which, simply put, anti-sound waves are created by a headphone. These sound waves then ensure that the ambient noise 'disappears'. The XB950N1 does what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't excel at it. You can clearly hear an improvement: sounds are filtered out so that you hear them less or not at all, although this is not always successful. Lower tones, such as an air conditioner, are filtered out perfectly, but voices, for example, are placed more in the background, but not completely filtered out. This can be positive and negative, because you can still have a conversation with someone, but it can also be disturbing if you are walking around a busy shopping street. I tested the noise canceling in a car, on the street and at home when the television was playing and I have to say that it does its job well enough.
The headphones are very comfortable and highly recommended for long sessions of listening to music or binge watching. The thick padding of the ear cups certainly helps with that, and there is also padding on the headband. This certainly helps, but could have been a little more for me for even more comfort.
The handling of these headphones is very good and well thought out. The power button and noise canceling button are easy to find and distinguishable by their difference in depth: one sticks out a bit, while the other is a bit slumped. The controls to skip tracks, pause, etc. are very good and easy to use. Unfortunately, not everything can be good about it, such as the bass effect button. This one sits flat and is not easy to find at all. Fortunately, you don't need it too often and you can also arrange this with the app. Also the orange and blue lights bother me, they blink when you use the headphones. That's why it sometimes seems like your head is an airplane :).
Finally, I'm going to say something about the most important thing about this product: the sound quality of course. I'm not a pro, but I can say that these headphones certainly give good sound. After first buying a cheap bluetooth headphone and then buying this one, I notice a very clear difference. This will certainly have something to do with the AptX codec that these headphones support, but also certainly with the 40mm drivers. As you would expect, the basses are excellent, and the mids are good too. The higher tones are a bit less but still sufficient.
All in all I am very satisfied with these headphones and I am sure that I (and hopefully the interested people who read this) will have a lot of fun with them. The total package has a good price/quality ratio and the minuses do not outweigh the pluses. I can certainly recommend the Sony MDR-XB950N1 to everyone!

He is a bit on the heavy side (gets used to it quickly) otherwise great sound and good fit. Just adjust the bass level per genre of music via the app.
