According to our headphones expert
Can't decide whether to get the Bose QuietComfort 35 II or the Bose Noise-Canceling Headphones 700? Read our comparison here.
Listen to your favorite music wirelessly with the Bose QuietComfort 35 II. Connect the headphones via Bluetooth to your phone or tablet. This means you won't have to take the phone out of your pocket. Thanks to the active noise-canceling function, ambient noises such as the sound of a train, or the roar of an airplane engine, won't bother you. The battery of the headphones lasts for 20 hours. Dead battery? Charge for fifteen minutes, and you can enjoy your music for another 2.5 hours. Use the Bose Connect app to switch off noise canceling completely or select a reduced noise-canceling mode
Noise cancelingNoise canceling analyzes the sound of your environment and creates an anti-noise. This anti-noise ensures that the Bose QuietComfort 35 II lets you hear more of the music and less of the environment. There is a button on the headphones which you can use to switch between 3 levels of noise canceling. This way, you can determine how much ambient noise you hear and you focus on the music and what you're doing.
Deep earcupsIn addition to the fact that the ear cushions of the Bose QuietComfort 35 II are made of soft synthetic protein leather, the ear cups are deep. This combination ensures that you can listen to music for hours, without hurting your ears.
Fast charge functionIf the noise canceling is enabled, the Bose QuietComfort 35 II lasts for 20 hours. You can charge it via the included micro USB charging cable. After 15 minutes of charging, you can listen to music for 2.5 hours again. When the battery runs out on the go and you can't charge it, you can continue listening via the included audio cable.
Sound according to the expertThe low tones of the Bose QuietComfort II are light, so you can enjoy a full bass sound. The sound of instruments and vocals is not excessively present or absent. This is because the medium-high tones are balanced. This makes this frequency range sound exactly as the artist intended. Note: these headphones don't have an equalizer that allows you to adjust the sound manually. You're dependent on the sound of the factory settings,

Well, where do I start? What ever makes a pair of headphones worth a price of 300+ euros? And why did I buy this anyway?
If you're talking about noise cancellation, you're talking about Bose. A few years ago I flew regularly and I always loved the QuietComfort at Schiphol. And also in electronics stores I regularly put one on my head to be amazed again by the silence. But I always told myself that the price was really too high for a pair of headphones.
Until now.
Because yes, it really is very tasty. In a busy office with a lot of noise around you and with two long flights (10+ hours) ahead, I bought it anyway. I hesitated for a long time between the Sennheiser PXC-550 and this one. Sony also participated for a while, but you can only connect 1 device at a time. I don't understand those kinds of design choices.
Bose does much better and stronger marketing anyway, but of course I don't let that distract me. So I went looking for a way to properly experience the difference between the Sennheiser and the Bose. I wanted to be able to wear them both and listen to them.
So I went to the local electronics store where they happened to have both. Unfortunately, the knowledge of the employees was so lousy that it took them fifteen minutes to get the Sennheiser up and running. The fact that I had already completely read the manuals for both headphones at home did not count, the employee really had to do this himself.
Anyway, I had both headphones on my head. Both with music in silence and with silence alone. What struck me was that in the pure silence (ie without music) I heard a kind of noise with the Sennheiser that I found very disturbing, while with the Bose it was really completely silent. And the Bose sits so comfortably on your head because of its soft headband and super light weight.
So I went home a bit disappointed, because the price difference was still a good 100 euros. And how does that go, then you think about it again, you make the considerations, you think again, and then 3 days later you order the Bose at 23:52 at Coolblue for lunch the next day. is delivered to your work. Neatly packed in a precisely fitting blue package. The headphones are delivered 60% charged, so they can be used the same day and what a pleasure!
The headphones sit comfortably on your head, no sweaty ears and you hardly notice that you have them on your head. Except that you have crystal clear music and silence. I read somewhere "as if a room has been built around you, just for you and your music". That is appropriate.
The only crazy thing is that all my colleagues suddenly seem to be mimes since I got these headphones...
Are the headphones worth the 300+ euros? Well, that's personal for everyone of course. Be sure to listen to the different options. The experience can always differ per person and per situation. My choice would have been easier if the price had been lower, but so far I have not regretted the purchase for a moment!

Introduction: When you think of noise canceling, you think of Bose. For years they have been able to market headphones with active noise canceling using the built-in microphones and the resulting anti-noise. Never before have I had such headphones in the house, so my experiences are based only on this very latest model from Bose.
In the box: The Bose QuietComfort 35 II (hereinafter referred to as QCII) comes in a small plastic-covered box containing the following:
I find it disappointing that Bose still chooses to implement Micro-USB in 2017. Where (finally) more and more products are switching to USB-C, the QCII is really a bit behind here. Sorry, minus. Furthermore, the cable is somewhat short, which didn't bother me; you don't charge while listening anyway. If this is a problem, everyone will probably have a separate micro USB cable.
The supplied cover is a hard cover, which has managed to keep my QCII very neat at the bottom of my backpack for the past few weeks. You can easily fold the headphones in, so you always have a compact and well-protected QCII at hand.
For those who prefer not to use the headphones wirelessly, an old-fashioned auxiliary cable is also included. This works fine, but once you're used to wireless, you don't want to go back at all.
Bluetooth: When using it for the first time, as with any Bluetooth device, you need to pair the QCII. This takes no more action than sliding the power button to the right, then selecting the QCII on your mobile device. In seconds they are connected and ready to use; after which the screen briefly shows the battery percentage. What struck me is that the QCII connects incredibly quickly after switching on, compared to, for example, my collection of Bluetooth Speakers. Cheers Bose. The only downside, however, is that the radius of the Bluetooth does not extend very far. With my phone still on the couch, and with my QCII in the kitchen, the signal sometimes drops a bit. Not quite what you expect from headphones in this price range. Where I can move my JBL Speaker up to a floor above my mobile device, I can't reach a third of the distance here; pity, but not a disaster for headphones.
Application: Although I am not a fan of installing a separate application for every product I purchase, it does add some value to the QCII. This way you can set the level at which you want the noise cancellation, to choose from:
Furthermore, there is not much to set in the app, and it is kept fairly simple. You can define the function button on the left side of your QCII for both Google Assistant or the Noise Canceling level and enable/disable the Bluetooth functionality. And finally, you will find the battery percentage at the bottom right of your screen.
Sound quality: Where in the past, after some testing in shops and trying by friends, I was not too pleased with the sound quality, I noticed that Bose has made very nice steps. Where Bose used to be quite bass-heavy (don't get me wrong, I like bass; but it has to be well-formed and not overpower the rest), I found the QCII to be very well-balanced. High tones could have been a little nicer, but could arrange this very much to taste with some tweaking in the Equalizer. Compared to my ATH-M50x they are very close together, but I think the M50x's sound more natural. All in all, very good sound quality after adjusting your EQ properly.
Battery life: With more than 20 hours of listening pleasure, there is nothing to complain about. The percentage is clear to find/see, so you will never be faced with surprises. Charging does not take long, and after half an hour of charging you can enjoy music for hours.
Price quality: With a price of €379,- it is on the high side, but with the Noise Canceling features that Bose can deliver, that is perhaps justified; but not for everyone. The sound quality could have been a little better in my opinion to fully justify the price.
Conclusion: All in all, a very nice headphone, with good noise canceling functionalities. Sleek design, with a very handy case just included. A complete product for someone who travels often, or who wants to shut down for a while in busy environments. With good sound quality, a long battery life and Google Assistant functionalities, they are really a pair of headphones of today; if we forget the lack of USB-C for a moment. Definitely recommended, but perhaps not suitable for the real Hi-Fi audiophile.

I use the QC35 daily in public transport. I spend about 3 hours a day in bus and train, and anything that can make this trip more enjoyable is very valuable to me. After walking with in-ear earplugs for a while, I didn't find the cushioning as good as it could be and I struggled with the wearing comfort. Then you quickly start looking at headphones with active noise canceling, where the QC35 is pretty much the standard. My conclusion: I don't know how I did without it in the first place, but you pay for that.
I can be brief about the active noise canceling: that is very pleasant. If you don't have music on, you will hear a very slight noise and feel a slight pressure on your ears. That pressure is comparable to what you sometimes feel in an elevator and you get used to it quickly. What stands out more is the silence. A (pleasant) isolated feeling. Sounds are not 100% gone, but simply much quieter. If you turn the noise canceling low or off, you really realize how much noise there is around you. In particular, constant, humming or buzzing sounds are filtered very well. Voices and beeps are still quite audible – which is fine. The ultimate effect is that you don't have to turn up the music as loudly and that you get a lot less tired from all the noise around you.
The sound quality is fine. However, if this is the main reason to buy headphones, there are better options out there. The bass is a bit exaggerated, especially at low volumes and in quiet environments. The mids and highs, on the other hand, could be a bit brighter. This specific timbre is easy to listen to, a 'warm' sound does not tire quickly. Bright tones in the middle and high. But it's not transparent or super good either.
In terms of wearing comfort and design, there is very little to criticize about this Bose. You can wear these headphones for hours on end without getting 'warm ears' or sore spots on your head. The build quality is also good. Of course you can expect this in this price range, but some competitors are significantly less comfortable or have had problems with quality.
The battery lasts about 20 hours. That in itself is fine but I would have preferred to see something longer. This means with intensive use that you will not get through the week without charging in between. The supplied cable is bizarrely short (10cm); Fortunately, almost everyone still has a micro-USB cable (for example from a smartphone).
In summary, the QC35 is really a very nice pair of headphones. Especially for people who are on the road a lot (for example in public transport) it can be a relief that gives you a lot of rest during the trip. It is also pleasant in an office environment. The active noise canceling just works very well, the sound quality is more than acceptable, the wearing comfort is very good - only the price is a bit less. Still, I'm happy with it and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
