According to our smartwatch expert
The Fossil Q Explorist is a rugged smartwatch with a round watch case. Thanks to the different digital watch fases, you can match your watch to any occasion or outfit. The watch strap can also be changed easily. Connect the Q Explorist to your smartphone via Bluetooth and receive a notification when there's an incoming call, message, or email. Using the accompanying app, you can configure which notifications you want to receive or don't want to receive. With the 3 buttons on the side and the touchscreen, you can navigate through all the functions quickly.

This is a beautifully designed watch with smart features in place of a smartwatch. Android wear 2.x solves all the issues I had with the platform in 1.x and feels like a great interface. The watch itself features a round amoled display with high resolution, the ability to take phone calls on the watch is neat when you're cycling or have your phone elsewhere. The only downside in my opinion is the battery life. I got about 13 hours of use with WiFi turned off, always in display turned off, gestures off but tilt to wake on. I don't get that many notifications and I did not use it too much for navigation. I did use Telegram and Google play music from the watch a bit. For me to highly recommend it the battery life needs to match the time I carry the watch which is around 16-18 hours a day. They advertise a full days normal use, I read this as with default settings but clearly it was not like this for me. I know that the phone you have affects the watch battery life too, I got great battery life of my old smartwatch with my oneplus one but not with my older Moto x. I currently use a Samsung s8.

Tried this one after returning my Gear s3. What a world of difference! The watch feels like a really solid premium watch. Includes a wide range of cool dials from Fossil. The Andriod Wear OS works great and syncs perfectly with my Galaxy s8. In any case, I can recommend Android Wear way above Tizen in any case.

I got this watch mainly so that I can a. keep track of time :), b. See notifications on my watch so I don't have to reach for my phone. c. Can see who is calling before I have to pick up my phone, d. can be kept well informed for agenda items.
In addition, I was looking for a smartwatch that looks like a watch, and not a standard "smartwatch".
Setting it up for the very first time was quite simple in combination with my android phone. Automatically also included all WiFi settings, and where necessary, they will therefore be used properly.
The display, with the time, gives you enough adjustability to look between a "classic" analog time with second hand, or a nice digital design. If you want something special, there is also plenty to look at here. However, if you want something that is in the Google store, you can also make it available.
For people who also want to measure heart rate etc, this is unfortunately not the watch for them, but for me it is perfect. What it does have is, for example, a pedometer, but this is not something I would use a normal watch / smartwatch for. For me this is a nice addition.
For me, it's simply the watch I've always wanted.
The battery life is indeed a small downside for me, but at the end of the day I usually have around 40 to 30% left, making this more than sufficient for me. However, if you let certain applications that run in the background continue to work, it may be that your battery does not last very long. I charge my phone every day anyway, so putting my watch on the charger is no problem to forget.
However, if you want an extra charging cable for the smartwatch, I think this is quite pricey. Charging is slow, with a maximum of 0.5 amp, so that any basic charger would suffice. However, because this is so low, it also takes quite a long time to charge.
In brief: Plus: The watch is solid, works the way I want it to, and meets everything I need. Minus: The battery, especially if you have applications running in the background. Extra charging cable is expensive, and can take quite a while to charge.
I personally recommend this watch if you don't want a sports watch, and are looking for a smartwatch that looks like a watch.
