At home I primarily use a 5 GHz WiFi network. The LG SK8 as it turned out, does not support connecting to a 5 GHz network, so if you tried to connect it, you'd get "Connection failed" without any additional help or explanation. Took me a lot of experimentation to figure out that is needs a 2.4 GHz network.
Even once connected, I kept having connection issues, with a several second delay every time before it started playing music or the sound from the TV. While in theory is supports streaming music via Spotify Connect, I haven't been able to get it to work.
Only way to listen to music was to stream to my Apple TV via AirPlay, which is connected to my TV, which in turn is connected to the soundbar. But even when doing like this, I frequently had problems with the sound stopping or lagging; in the middle of a song, it'd start to stutter, or stop playing altogether and resume only after several seconds. During this time the device seemed offline, and was not reacting to controls.
Also, having to manually switch the device between WiFi mode when you want to stream music to it, and to HDMI mode when you want to watch TV is very inconvenient and should absolutely not be necessary. So even if everything was working as they intended, it would still be a subpar experience.
The smartphone app is functional on iPhone, but certainly not the best.
Finally, the sound quality is overall actually quite meh considering the price tag. This after I messed around trying to tune it for about an hour.
By the way, this device does not come with an HDMI connected included, so you have to buy that separately. Such a trivial thing, but annoying.
Overall, there are much better options there for the same or even lower price tag, such as the Yamata 207 or the Sonos Beam. I would very much not recommend buying the LG SK8, even for the reduced price of 300 EURs. I returned my own after 2 weeks and got a Sonos Beam instead.
