According to our video card expert
The Asus ROG Strix RTX 2070 O8G Gaming is a video card for fanatic gamers. Thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX2070 graphics processing unit on this video card, you can play nearly all games at high settings in Ultra HD. With advanced new functions such as ray tracing, the graphics of suitable games look more realistic in comparison to the previous generation NVIDIA video cards. Because this video card is overclocked by default, your games are run even smoother than with similar cards. The card is equipped with LED lighting that you can set to your favorite color. This way, this video card always suits your computer case.

With Bf V on the way, I checked whether it was worth trading in my 1070 for a 2080. But although the mining madness is over, the prices for the new RTX technology remain sky-high.
Consequently settled for Asus' 2070 strix. A bulky card that needs a bit more locks and power than its predecessor, but does well in the comparison tests. It can easily maintain its higher clock speed for hours, while the noise production - several times an issue with the strix models - is much better than expected. The 1070 could blow a lot louder under high load.
The thick cooling block and the more aggressive fan profile make for laughable temperatures. 3u Ghost Recon with everything on ultra (1440p) has it just hitting 60 degrees in my case.
Everything perfect then? Not quite. If you have a 1080 then I don't know if the switch for gaming to 1440p is worth it. The frame rates are quite similar and the whole ray tracing story is downright laughable. On Bf V, this card achieves 21fps at ultra with RTX enabled, the 2080 barely does better.
Do you want to upgrade to a card because you can no longer play the current games on the desired setting? Then this is the right choice. But don't see this as an entry into the world of Ray Tracing because it certainly isn't (for now).

For the money really good option. For 1080p gaming 144hz this is basically all you ever need for any game with ultra graphics. It's pretty long and take up 3 PCI slots.
