This is a fine camera, and now that the 7D series seems to have been discontinued, this is a camera that lies somewhat more between the old two-digit EOS series and the 7D. I'm coming from a 7D mark I myself, and this camera is a huge upgrade. It's nice that the focus joystick is finally on this series of cameras, which gives flexibility that I would have missed in an earlier model. The only thing that I miss is a button to quickly shoot one RAW snapshot, but that should not spoil the fun. With a newer camera (the 7D is now more than 10 years old) comes a huge mountain of new functions. Some of these are hidden away in a menu, and that menu also wants to differ per shooting mode that you have set. I haven't used the camera long enough to quickly find my way around it, but I think menu navigation gets faster once you use a few functions more often.

The recording quality with the new DIGIC-8 processor is very good. The iso noise is (obviously) a lot better than with my previous camera, and that also ensures that you are more flexible in lower light because you can gain some extra stops of brightness.

Filming also seems to be in order. It focuses quickly and the image quality at 4K is very good with the new DIGIC-8 processors.

A lot of functions I haven't even tried yet, because there are just so many, but that will come with time.
