We take this device out of the cupboard much faster than an 'old-fashioned' vacuum cleaner to vacuum everything clean. With a cat (hair) and a son playing football (sand, artificial grass granules), our walk-in mat needs a vacuuming day in and day out. It is very nice that the device itself recognizes the surface and then goes completely 'loose' on the mat. The mat has never been so clean. This was noticeable when we used the device on the mat for the first time. Mountains of sand and hair filled the reservoir. If we had to mention a downside it would be the weight. But it is logical that it is heavier than an 'old-fashioned' normal vacuum cleaner.
