Have had these binoculars (and Canon's 15x50) since 2003. Absolutely great. The 18 times magnification would normally not be possible to keep still, but with IS it gives an incredibly detailed image, even in less ideal light. In the twilight, these binoculars can be used for a long time. Despite the fact that the dust- and splash-proof body is made of polycarbonate, it is extremely robust. Dozens of safaris, rattling Land Rovers, jolts, knocks, huge amounts of dust, rain and an occasional fall has suffered this viewer passively and the quality has not suffered. A big advantage is that the front lenses are provided with 58mm filter thread, so that you can screw on a blank or UV filter. I have worn or broken many filters over the years, but the front lenses of these binoculars are still like new and thanks to the filters they never get dusty or wet. The viewer has a rubber-like layer that is pleasant to hold and offers an excellent grip. Moreover, that layer is not very scratch sensitive. After 14 years my copy looks used, but still acceptable. The image stabilization gives, even if you don't have such a steady hand, a very quiet image that is not feasible with ordinary binoculars. The image stabilizer can be easily switched on and off by means of a button. a button that is within reach of your right index finger. The optical quality is excellent, but you may expect that from a manufacturer that also makes good camera lenses.

Canon 18x50 IS AW really only has two drawbacks.

It needs two AA batteries to run the image stabilization. Without image stabilization, the 18x magnification is actually unusable, but with image stabilization you get details that the user of an 8x42 or 10x42 viewer can only dream of. Fresh batteries in your pocket or bag are therefore an absolute necessity.
With over a kilo, this viewer is very heavy and really only suitable for use from a static position or during game drives in a vehicle. I would strongly advise against walking for miles with the 18x50 IS AW around your neck. Unless you have something to prove, of course. For hiking, standard binoculars are required.
