According to our receiver expert
Thanks to the Dolby Atmos technology, the surround sound reflects off the ceiling.
Thanks to the built-in DAC, you experience a detailed sound.
The receiver transmits the Ultra HD images from your AV source to your TV.
You can't use WiFi to stream music to the receiver.
Take your home cinema to the next level with the Sony STR-DH790. The receiver supports Dolby Atmos technology, so you enjoy cinema sound in your living room. This technology bounces the sound via the ceiling, so it seems as if that plane is really flying right over you. Thanks to the built-in DAC, you listen to a detailed sound reproduction. Thanks to 4K support, you can connect your 4K Blu-ray player and next-gen game console. That way, you enjoy a high image quality. Adjust the sound to the space with the included measurement microphone.
Great thing! Meets all expectations. For the first time that I have made a Dolby Atmos 7.1 setup from my 5.1, with the two extra speakers reflecting sound from the ceiling. Easy to set up using the included microphone. Sound sounds fantastic and the image is neatly passed on.
The only "surprise" for me was that you can't send 4K+HDR through the AV receiver; if your HDMI signal goes through the receiver to your TV, either max. 4K is supported, or max. 1080p with HDR, but not 4K with HDR. First world problem but still good to know. Now solved by sending the signal directly to my TV and from there the sound to the receiver. That just works, so problem solved.
