According to our mobile phone expert
Get a top-notch phone for a low price with the Asus Zenfone Max Pro. Thanks to its 5,000mAh battery, the smartphone can go 2 days without a charge. You can make sharp photos with the 13 and 5-megapixel dual camera, and selfies with the 8-megapixel selfie camera. With 4GB RAM, you'll be able to switch between apps at lightning speed. You'll also have plenty of room with the 64GB storage capacity. You can expand its storage capacity by adding an extra memory card. Not necessary? In addition to the memory card, you can easily insert an extra SIM card into the Zenfone Max Pro, so that you're available on 2 numbers.

For several years I have said goodbye to the premium segment, and I buy a budget model every 2-3 years. These phones do everything you need for a quarter of the price, and you'll always have a device that's up to date. After a very good experience with an Ulefone Power, which was again in the running for this search, the choice fell on the Asus Zenfone Power Max.
After two weeks of intensive use, I can confirm that you do indeed get 2 days from one battery charge. Those who strum less frequently should even be able to go to the 3 days. Charging is also very fast, because 3 hours is not that long for a battery of 5,000 mAh. Striking, and often not to be found even in the higher price ranges: you can insert 2 SIM cards AND a memory card at the same time. Handy for those who want to keep work and private calls separate, or who want to place a card from the local provider while on holiday. I also noted a very fast GPS fix (device supports GPS, AGPS, Glonass and Beidou, no Galileo yet) and a camera that - like all smartphone cameras actually - delivers good photos when there is enough light. The camera was invented long ago to take excellent pictures in all circumstances.
The device comes with a Pure Android Oreo 8.1 OS, but Asus has not communicated much about the (Android) update policy yet. In two weeks I have already received three FOTAs, so they don't sit still there either. The speakers go quite loud at times, but that sometimes results in tinny sound, and the placement at the bottom is a bit unfortunate to cover them unintentionally. An equalizer App did give some improvement.
The FHD+ screen is of very good quality, very sensitive, and easy to read, but I don't notice much difference with the FHD resolution. It's not Gorilla Glass, but some videos circulating on the internet show it should be fine in terms of scratch resistance, and I'm confident Asus' build quality will be similar to their laptops and desktops, which I've had excellent experiences with. . The device fits well in the hand and is remarkably slim despite the huge battery. The plastic back is smooth - so be careful - but in all senses of the word: despite the materials used, it does not look cheap, rather even a little premium. Incidentally, I prefer these types of devices over those with a glass back, which cause a lot of repair costs in the event of an accidental fall.
The fingerprint scanner on the back works smoothly enough. I haven't tested facial recognition yet: it's nice that it's over, but I wear glasses, which may make recognition a bit more problematic. All applications open quickly thanks to the Snapdragon 636 processor and 4 GB of RAM, and with 64 GB of storage memory (expandable to 2 TB) you are also good.
The device only supports the WiFi 2.4GHz frequency. I personally have never had the feeling that my WiFi connection was too slow, and I actually surf almost constantly via 4G, so since it doesn't bother me I don't consider it a negative. These are things that manufacturers can rightly save on when releasing a budget phone.
I have only mentioned the minuses because they can be a stumbling block for some; for me they are relatively unimportant: for now I don't miss NFC, I don't have to buy new USB C cables, and if I want to listen to music in good quality, I'll put my floorstanders to work. At the moment this phone definitely scores 5 stars for me, and Asus, which does not yet have that much experience in the smartphone market, has delivered a device that will probably go smoothly over the counter.

Phone in possession for 3 days and have now used it for 3 days (intensive) without charging. Feels and works very well. No unnecessary included apps that slow down the phone.
