According to our soundbar expert
Improve the sound of your favorite movies, series, games, and TV shows with the Sony HT-X8500. This soundbar has the Dolby Atmos technology. The sound isn't only sent straight ahead into room, but also upwards and to the sides. This results in a realistic sound experience. The built-in subwoofer emphasizes the bass, so the sound effects are enhanced. You can use different modes, such as theater, music, games, news, and sports to make the most of the sound. Do you rather listen to music? Connect the bar to your smartphone or tablet and stream music via streaming services such as Spotify or Deezer. You can also connect the soundbar to your television with an HDMI AR or optical cable.

I have had this soundbar for a few weeks now. What immediately stands out is the sleek design. A (small) downside is that no HDMI cable is included. Still annoying if you don't have an extra HDMI cable at home. Nevertheless, the soundbar is very easy to use. So connected and installed. There's no shortage of options either! This way you have multiple settings for the sound (for example vertical sound, auto sound, cinema, music, voice, night, etc.). If I "just watch TV" then I switch the soundbar to auto sound. For movies and/or games, I switch to one of the other sound settings. It is recommended that you only enable vertical sound for movies. With normal television, the vertical sound does not come out very well. Switching between the sound settings is easy and quick to control via the remote control.
Music from your phone or laptop can also be easily played on the soundbar via a Bluetooth connection.
For a 2.1 soundbar, the sound is very good. The built-in subwoofer also works well. You can set the subwoofer in three positions. For me personally, the second setting is ideal and in balance with the other tones. If you are looking for the ultimate cinema experience, then this soundbar will be slightly less suitable. The sound is certainly room-filling and good, but I would consider the soundbar more as an addition to the standard TV sound.

Nice packaging and very clear installation instructions. HDMI cable is not included, but everyone has one at home, right? Connecting is done. Nice full sound with a spacious feeling. It does lack a bass, but I don't mind that in my home. Personally, I prefer several separate speakers, but this is a very good alternative!
