"Offers a great drawing experience but suffers from flaws"

By Rafaël on 2 December 2019

  • Pros:
    Great drawing experience
  • Pros:
    Large drawing surface
  • Pros:
    Solid build quality
  • Pros:
    Highly customizable
  • Pros:
    Can be used wirelessly
  • Con:
    Many software related issues
  • Con:
High wear rate when using default drawing surface texture
  • Con:
Wireless functionality can be laggy depending on interference
  • Con:
    Price premium

I use this tablet primarily for personal use at home and I have to say that this tablet offers a phenomenal drawing experience.

Its accuracy is exceptional and there's very little lag. Tilt functionality also works very well. The large active surface offers me enough space to use my arm freely, and drawing on it feels very natural after getting accustomed to it.

Getting to this part was a bit less fun, however, as I ran into numerous software issues while setting the tablet up:

After I setup wired mode, trying to setup wireless mode resulted in issues with both modes which forced me to restart my computer. The tablet worked fine afterwards for a while (in both modes), until at one point I tried to use wireless mode again, which caused the tablet to stop working properly, again, forcing me to restart. After restarting, all of my customizations were gone.

I haven't ran into any more issues afterwards. For a premium product, you'd expect the software to work out of the box. User friendliness was on the lower side during setup.

Touch functionality on this tablet isn't great as its palm rejection has shortcomings. For this reason I keep touch disabled which is easily done using a dedicated on/off switch for touch. This physical switch is nice to have, since even though touch isn't perfect, it can still be useful at times and I can just enable or disable it with a flick of a switch.

The build quality of the tablet is very good. Despite being on the heavier side, it remains very portable and I've had no issues carrying it around. I'd recommend investing into the smoother drawing surface, as it will preserve the life of your pen nibs. The default textured surface wears rapidly and it makes sure to take all your pen nibs with it.

Even though I gave quite a few negatives towards this tablet. I still really enjoy using it, and I truly hope Wacom will improve their software. Troubleshooting the tablet was time consuming and for the hefty price I paid for it I was hoping for a quick and effortless setup. Sadly this was not the case!

I used for sculpting in Zbrush mainly. Super ok pen and the portability are the big plusses of this tablet.
