Very nice lens for someone looking for an anamorphic lens without breaking the bank. Does what you expect: very fine, oval bokeh; blue lens flare; nice contrast between in focus and background;... so that every image — photo and video — has a cinematic atmosphere. In short: a nice lens to have in your kit!
For beginners it probably requires a bit of adjustment: it is a lens that you have to control completely manually, but once you are used to this, you get a lot in return. There are no clicks or hard stops on the f-ring, so in the beginning it takes some getting used to which distances you do with the ring to determine your focal length without having to look at the lens every now and then.
As with any anamorphic lens, you have to de-squeeze the images. It doesn't matter that they are squeezed onto your view finder or screen, you can focus perfectly and you see everything that comes on your image, it just has a bit of a "pressed together" impression. Then an external monitor with a de-squeeze function is nice to have, but not necessary at all to get started with this lens.
Very happy with this purchase. I had expected to use it mainly for video images, but I find that I also like to use this lens for photos. You can create beautiful atmospheric images with it, and the depth that you can obtain in portrait photography gives this lens that little bit of extra punch that I can't find in any other lens.
It remains a 'niche' lens and it will certainly not be for everyone, but if you like to experiment, or you like cinematic effects and/or you are involved with both video images and photography, this is definitely recommended!
