Have been playing AC yourself since part 1, the stories of Altaïr, Ezio, and the characters from III and black flag. I don't count Unity for the sake of convenience. It's a game with so much potential. Ubisoft is great at creating beautiful worlds, that's not the problem. It's in the fine finish. I wonder if this game was properly tested before it came out. Combat feels unbalanced, the characters in the open worlds are peach or cake, the bosses and mini-bosses are very spicy. Especially because the block buttons and dodge buttons work inconsistently. The story is amusing but it doesn't grab me like it did in previous versions of the game. Oddessey was a lot stronger, but that can be personal. Not enough has been done with the haptic capabilities of the controller for a PS5 game. The stealth element in the gameplay with which AC has become known is still only slightly present and is not or hardly rewarded. The fallout-like story choices you make are opaque but have quite a lot of impact on the story.
All in all a mediocre version this year. Maybe better next year. But perhaps that is precisely the problem.
AC, just like EA with FIFA, among others, should better not release a mediocre cash cow every year, but better bring something on the market that is good.
