With the Hoya Variable Density II 72mm filter, you can control the brightness on your camera sensor through the lens. The filter blocks 1.5 to 9 stops of light. Unclear arrangement of stops

Good quality filter. Convenient adjustment with screw-in rod. Awkward; the dashes do not correspond to light stops! So you have to estimate the extra time. I don't understand the logic at all. And what I didn't realize before I bought the filter: you can't put an extra ND filter on it. About 9 stops is the maximum that can be achieved.
