According to our soundbar expert
Dolby Atmos sends the sound to your listening position via the ceiling, so you can enjoy surround sound.
Thanks to the included rear speakers, you can enjoy an even better surround experience.
Because the included subwoofer has Auto EQ, the bass reproduction is adjusted to the acoustics of the room.
The speakers aren't suitable to add to your multi-room system.

I was able to test the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar for a few weeks. Started the installation right after unpacking. To install the soundbar you need two apps, namely the Smart Things app and the Google Home app. The first app is for setting up the soundbar and the second is for controlling the soundbar with Google Assistant. With the Smart Things app you can change quite a few settings, but unfortunately not everything. I think that's a missed opportunity. You can change all settings via the display on the soundbar, which is too small, only you have to pay attention to where you are in the menu. It would have been easier if these settings could also be changed via the app. And then the sound experience. Thanks to the Dolby Atmos you really get the feeling of being in the movie. Due to the different placement of the speakers in the soundbar and the two rear speakers, the room is filled with sound. The sub finishes it all and everything comes to life. Just playing music is of course also possible alone, I would not only do this on the soundbar, but use the entire system for this. With only the soundbar, the music sounds mediocre and I have the feeling that something is missing. The Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar is also easy to use. When switching on the TV, the soundbar also turns on. The sound mode can be adjusted with the supplied remote control or with the app. The volume can be adjusted with the TV remote control. All in all, the soundbar is easy to operate.
In summary, the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar is highly recommended for the real movie experience. Easy to install and use but with a few hiccups. A screen that is too small in the soundbar and just a little too few setting options in the app. Due to its metal look and minimalistic finish, a system that can be seen in the living room.

We have been able to test this soundbar for a few weeks and very honestly: watching television will take a lot of getting used to without this soundbar.
The soundbar works with both an optical cable (connected to an 11-year-old Philips TV) and a new Samsung NEO smart TV with HDMI connection. In both cases, the soundbar gave a clear and powerful sound, as if you were in the cinema. We had previously only had such an experience with an 'ideal' set-up in the store. Then you feel somewhat cheated if you don't have the same sound at home. With this set with subwoofer, you really do get something beautiful in your home, in terms of experience when watching movies and listening to music. The design is also sleek and practical. All boxes are wirelessly connected to the soundbar. The color should have been white in my opinion, but this is a matter of taste (and interior). The soundbar looks slim, despite its size (123.5 x 14 x 7 cm).
The sound of this Samsung is very good and the bass tones resonate considerably through the living room when watching a movie. The subwoofer can be set to different levels with the remote control; so nice for the neighbors. ;) The surround sound makes it seem like the sound is 'everywhere' and even seems to come from places in the living room where there are no speakers. If you have Spotify (or another streaming), the connection is made easy to listen to your favorite music with fantastic sound again. What is missing for me is an additional manual for setting the sound. It is possible to adjust the different speakers in the soundbar, but we have not yet been able to test those different options.

I was allowed to test this soundbar for a few weeks. Unpacking and installation went very quickly and without any problems. Connecting to a Samsung TV from 2022 went completely smoothly. During connection, it is clearly indicated that you must connect the cable to the eARC HDMI connection of your TV. Then turn on the TV and you can enjoy fantastic sound. It's like being in a movie theater with this great sound. It's very accurate.
What I also find important is the energy consumption and that is not so bad. Really an absolute plus.
Is there anything less about this soundbar? The design is not wrong, but a slightly slimmer soundbar would really make this set an absolute must. The soundbar is now slightly wider than the 55-inch TV. Hanging it on the wall is perhaps a nicer solution, because now the bottom of the TV also disappears slightly behind the soundbar.
