Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released on 26 June 2025. The game is only available on the PS5. This long-awaited sequel to Hideo Kojima’s first game from 2019 was announced during a PlayStation State of Play. Like its predecessor, this title again promises immersive story telling, thrilling gameplay, and deep symbolic themes.

In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Sam Porter Bridges returns for a new mission in a world that is still out of balance. The story partially moved outside the known borders of United Cities of America (UCA) to unknown and dangerous terrain. The setting stays post-apocalyptic, but is richer and more varied. That way, you can discover more terrifying landscapes.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach adds new gear, vehicles, and surroundings to the known gameplay. The balance between action and exploring is central, but with more strategic possibilities. You also skip boss fights, so you can focus more on the storyline instead of the action. The online interactions also return, where players indirectly influence each other's world.

Sam Porter Bridges, Fragile, and enemy Higgs appear in this sequel again. You also meet new characters. Each of these characters plays an important role in the story and represent a certain theme, such as hope, fear, and unity. You get to know them better along the way and they make the story feel personal and immersive.

This game is about what it means to be human in this world. One of the important themes is unity. Also themes like sacrifice and recovery return. Like in many of Kojima’s work, the game tells the story in a cinematic, symbolic way. The game doesn't only bring you into action, but also makes you think about the world and your role in it.
