The most common errors of Bosch and Siemens washing machines

If your Bosch or Siemens washing machine gives an error, that's a bummer. You can usually see an error notification or code on the display. In this article, you can read what to do for which error notification of your Bosch or Siemens washing machine.

E18

Error E6, E18, E25, E26, E30, E36, or E80

There's an issue with the water drain. This could be caused by the drain pump itself, or by the drain. How can I fix this? Clean the drain pump filter and make sure the washing machine doesn't have to pump the water further than 1m upwards. Check the drain hose for kinks or blockages and solve those by straightening the hose and flushing thoroughly.

What do you do if the drain of your washing machine is clogged?
E10

Error E10

This is an error in the i-DOS system, also known as the automatic dosing system. The washing machine has directly disabled the i-DOS system. Contact the location where you bought the washing machine or Bosch or Siemens. Despite this error, you can still dose manually in the detergent drawer.

Bosch error E17

Error E11, E12, E17, F17, E29, or F29

There's a problem with the water supply. Open the supply and check if you can fill a bucket in 1 minute. Afterwards, check if the filter in the water supply hose is clean. First, reduce the water pressure in the hose:

  1. Close the water supply.
  2. Choose a random cycle.
  3. Press start and let the drum spin for 40 seconds.
  4. Stop the cycle and remove the plug from the socket.
  5. Remove the hose from the water supply. Clean the filter with a brush.
  6. Reconnect the hose.
E23

Error E23, F23, or E35

The washing machine has detected water on the base plate, so there might be a leak. To prevent a larger leak, you should close the water supply and disconnect the washing machine from the power grid. After this, contact the location where you bought the washing machine or Bosch or Siemens.

E32

Error E32 or E60

The error code E32 alternately flashes "End" on the display. There's no real error, but the washing machine has interrupted the wash cycle because of an imbalance in the drum. The laundry isn't distributed evenly. Properly distribute the laundry over the drum. Alternate between small and large clothes, so large, heavy clothes don't all end up on 1 side. Start a spinning cycle if the washing result isn't what it should be because of the error.

E16

Error E16 or F16

With an E16 or F16 error, there's something between the door. If possible, open the door and gently remove the laundry. Firmly push the door closed and restart the cycle.

E21

Error E21 or F21

The motor has an error. Turn off the washing machine and turn it back on after 3 minutes. This way, you reset the washing machine.
