How do you clean the filter of a range hood?
You have a dirty grease filter, so your range hood no longer works optimally. If you clean your filters once every 2 months, your range hood will work efficiently. You can clean the grease filter with a degreaser and water, for example. There are 3 types of filters. There are metal, aluminum, and fabric filters. You can read how to clean the different grease filters here.
Clean metal filters
Nowadays, most range hoods have metal grease filters. These filters are washable and can be washed in the dishwasher.
- Take the grease filters out of the range hood and spray them with degreaser.
- Let the degreaser soak for about 10 minutes.
- Clean the filters in the dishwasher with a dishwasher detergent on 40°C.
- Make sure the greasy part points downwards and the grease filters aren't stuck in the dishwasher.
Clean aluminum filter
You can also clean aluminum filters. However, these aren't suitable for a dishwasher.
- Take the grease filters out of the range hood and spray them with degreaser.
- Let the degreaser soak for 10 minutes.
- Rrinse the filters with hot water.
- Dry the filters and put them back in your range hood.
Replace fabric filter
It's not common anymore, but there are still range hoods with fabric filters. You can wash these filters, so they have to be replaced if they're dirty. The system differs per range hood. You can find more information in the manual of your range hood.
