How do you connect a smartphone to a Bluetooth speaker?

Yes, your new Bluetooth speaker has arrived. Before you stream all your favorite music everywhere, you still have to connect your smartphone and speaker. In this article, you can read how you can achieve this in 4 steps. You need: your smartphone and your Bluetooth speaker. Click on the operating system of your smartphone:

iPhone

The following steps explain how to connect an Apple smartphone with iOS to your Bluetooth speaker. Make sure your smartphone and your Bluetooth speaker are fully charged.

Step 1: make sure your iPhone is up-to-date

Make sure the latest updates have been installed on your iPhone
  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap Software update.
  • If a new update is available, you'll see this. If there is no update available, go to the next step.
  • If an update has been found, tap Download.
  • Tap Install.
  •  Your smartphone now asks for your access code and installs the update. Your phone is restarted and is ready for the next step.

Step 2: turn on Bluetooth

Open your iPhone settings and tap Bluetooth. Make sure the switch is on. If the switch is green, that means it's on. If the switch is gray, tap it to turn it on.

Step 3: turn on your Bluetooth speaker

Turn on your speaker. When you buy a new Bluetooth speaker, it always starts in pairing mode. This setting is required to find your smartphone. If you've connected the speaker to another device before, you'll need to activate this mode manually. In many cases, you can do this by pressing and holding the power button. In some cases, the speaker has a separate Bluetooth button. When in doubt, you can check the speaker's manual.

Step 4: pair your iPhone and Bluetooth speaker

  • Hold your smartphone close to the speaker and wait until it appears on the Bluetooth screen under Other devices.
  • In most cases, the speaker's name or brand will appear here. Tap the name and your smartphone will establish a connection to your Bluetooth speaker.

Android

The following steps explain how to connect an smartphone with Android to your Bluetooth speaker. It's possible that a menu has a slightly different name on your telephone or can be found in a slightly different place. The Android system can be adjusted slightly for each brand. Make sure your smartphone and your Bluetooth speaker are fully charged.

Step 1: make sure your smartphone is up-to-date

  • Open Settings on your phone.
  • Tap About the phone (this option is also called Device info).
  • Tap System updates.
  • Tap Update now.
  • Your smartphone is now searching for updates. If an update is found, the screen will explain how to perform it.

Step 2: turn on Bluetooth

Open your smartphone's settings and tap Bluetooth. Make sure the switch is on. If the switch is blue, that means it's on. If the switch is gray, tap it to turn it on.
