How do I install my Chromecast audio?

In this article, we'll help you install the Chromecast Audio so you can quickly enjoy your favorite music. Once you've gone through this information, you can access the Chromecast Audio from all suitable devices in your network and play music on them. Choose below which device you're installing it on.

Chromecast Audio from a smartphone or tablet

For this installation, your smartphone or tablet must have Android version 4.1 or higher. If you use an iPhone or iPad, it must have iOS 7.0 or higher.

Here's what you need

  • A Google Chromecast Audio.
  • An amplifier, receiver, or active speaker. This is the device with which you want to listen to the music via your Chromecast Audio.
  • A tablet or smartphone. This doesn't have to be the device that you'll be using to play your music. The tablet of your son, daughter, or neighbor will also work.
  • A wireless network and the password to it.

Connect your Chromecast Audio

The Chromecast Audio can be connected to any amplifier, receiver, or active speaker. If your amplifier or speaker has an AUX (3.5mm jack) connector, you can use the included AUX cable.

Install Google Home

  • Make sure your smartphone or tablet has the latest updates.
  • Make sure your tablet or smartphone is connected to your wireless network.
  • Open the Google Play store if you use Android or the App Store if you have an iPhone or iPad and search for the Google Home app.
  • Download and install the Google Home app.
  • Tap Accept to agree to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy.
  • If you're using an Apple device, the app may ask you to turn on Bluetooth. Tap Enable Bluetooth to do so.

Making a connection

  • At the top right of the screen, tap the Devices icon.
  • Google Home will now request access to the location of your tablet or smartphone. Tap Allow.
  • A list of found devices appears. Tap on your Chromecast Audio here.
  • Select Set Up.
  • Tap Continue. The app will now connect to your Chromecast audio.
  • If this doesn't work, move your smartphone or tablet slightly closer to the Chromecast Audio and tap Retry.
  • Once the connection is successful, tap Continue.

Testing and setting it up

  • Turn on your speakers or amplifier. Don't turn up the volume too much, but make sure the volume is loud enough to hear the sound from the Chromecast Audio.
  • In the app, tap Play Test Sound and check if you hear this sound from your speakers.
  • If this is the case, tap I've Heard It.
  • Haven't heard it? Check if the Chromecast is properly connected to the correct input and that the volume isn't too low.
  • Once you've fixed this, tap Replay to check it again.
  • Tap I've Heard It as soon as you hear the sound from your speakers.
  • Select your region and tap Continue.
  • You now have the possibility to give your Chromecast Audio a unique name. Enter the name with which you want to recognize the Chromecast Audio in other apps (for example "Living room").
  • Tap Continue.

Network connection

  • Choose the network to which you want to connect the Chromecast Audio. By tapping the arrow, you'll see a list of all available networks you can choose from.
  • Depending on the version of your smartphone, the app will offer to automatically retrieve the password for this network. Tap OK for this.
  • If this doesn't happen, manually enter your network's password and tap Continue.
  • The Chromecast Audio will now try to connect to your network. Once it's done that, it'll search for updates and, if necessary, carry them out.
  • Tap Continue.
  • The app will now ask you to log in with your Google account. This is not necessary, but it is recommended.

Now you're ready

Your Chromecast Audio is ready for use. Tap More Information On Casting if you want to see how to play your favorite music. Do you already know how to cast to a Chromecast Audio? Tap Skip and start playing your favorite music.

For this installation your device must have Windows version 7 or higher. If you use an Apple laptop, then you must have MacOS version 10.9 or higher. After this installation, you can control the Chromecast Audio from any suitable device.

Here's what you need

  • A Google Chromecast Audio.
  • An amplifier, receiver, or active speaker. This is the device with which you want to listen to the music via your Chromecast Audio.
  • A laptop or PC. This doesn't have to be the device that you'll be using to play your music. The laptop of your son, daughter, or neighbor will also work.
  • A wireless network and the password to it.

Connect your Chromecast Audio

The Chromecast Audio can be connected to any amplifier, receiver, or active speaker. If your amplifier or speaker has an AUX (3.5mm jack) connector, you can use the included AUX cable.

Go to the Chromecast page

  • Make sure your laptop has the latest updates.
  • To install the Chromecast Audio you need Google Chrome. Don't have this yet? Download it for free from the Google website.
  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Go to the setup page of Google. https://www.google.com/chromecast/setup/
  • Click 'You can also set up your Chromecast on this computer'.
  • It will now search for your Chromecast Audio. Once it's found, click Set up.
  • Your computer will now try to connect to the temporary WiFi network created by the Chromecast Audio.
  • If this doesn't work, you'll be asked to do this manually. You do this in the same way that you normally connect to a WiFi network. Open the WiFi menu and choose the WiFi network that your Chromecast Audio has created.
  • Click Next.

Network connection

  • Now choose the network to which you want to connect the Chromecast Audio. Clicking the arrow gives you a list of all available networks.
  • Select your network and enter your network's password.
  • The Chromecast Audio will now try to connect to your network. Once it's done that, it'll search for updates and carry them out if necessary.
  • Click Next.

Testing and setting it up

  • Turn on your speakers or amplifier. Don't turn up the volume too much, but make sure the volume is loud enough to hear the sound from the Chromecast Audio.
  • Click Play Sound and check whether you hear this sound from your speakers.
  • If you can, click Yes.
  • Can't hear it? Click No. Check that the Chromecast is properly connected to the correct input and that the volume isn't too low. Once you've fixed this, click Replay Sound to check it again.
  • Click Yes when you hear the sound from your speakers.
  • On the next screen, you'll get the option to give your Chromecast Audio a unique name. Enter the name with which you want to recognize the Chromecast Audio in other apps (for example "Living room").
  • Click on This looks good.

Now you're ready

Your Chromecast Audio is ready for use. On your laptop, you'll see a list of all available devices in your network. There's also a brief explanation of how casting works. You can now stream sound from any suitable app to your Chromecast Audio.
