Are you going on vacation with your carry-on suitcase? It's good to know the carry-on luggage rules. For example, the carry-on luggage dimensions, what you can and can't take with you, and how much liquid you can put in your carry-on luggage. In this article, we give 4 tips to help you prevent surprises at the airport.
Get started with your carry-on suitcase
With these 4 tips, you can travel well-prepared with your carry-on suitcase.
-
Tip 1: check the carry-on luggage dimensions and weight
-
Tip 2: keep the liquids in your carry-on luggage in mind
-
Tip 3: set up your suitcase lock
-
Tip 4: don't take prohibited items with you
Tip 1: check the carry-on luggage dimensions and weight
Make sure you check if your carry-on suitcase has the right dimensions and right weight. Every airline has its own carry-on luggage. Your suitcase can be 55x40x20cm with one airline, and only 40x30x20cm with another. The maximum weight also differs, like 8 or 10kg. Is your suitcase too large or heavy? You'll have to pay extra or it has to get checked.
Tip 2: keep the liquids in your carry-on luggage in mind
You can usually take 10 packages with 100ml of liquid in your carry-on luggage. For example, make-up, gel, deodorant, or liquid food like spreadable cheese. Put all these items in 1 transparent resealable bag of 1L maximum. This keeps your luggage clean in case something leaks and border control can see what you have right away.
Tip 3: set up your suitcase lock
Sometimes, your carry-on suitcase can't go into the airplane cabin at the last minute. You can't keep an eye on your suitcase anymore. That's why most carry-on suitcases have a TSA lock. Set this lock beforehand, so no one can just open your suitcase. Doesn't your suitcase have a lock? Take a separate suitcase lock with you.
Tip 4: don't take any prohibited items with you
Check whether you don't have any prohibited items in your carry-on luggage. Are you taking a nail file, scissors, or tweezers with you? They can't be longer than 6cm. Sharp shaver blades also aren't allowed. That's why you should choose disposable shaver blades. Check the website of your airline or airport for a complete overview.
