What's Apple Intelligence on an iPad and what can you use it for?

You can use Apple Intelligence on the iPad Pro, iPad Air, or iPad Mini with iPadOS 18.1 or newer. AI only works on models with the following processor:

• iPad Pro with an M1 chip or newer (from 2021)
• iPad Air with an M1 chip or newer (from 2022)
• iPad Mini with an A17 Pro chip (2024)

The starter model iPad doesn't support Apple Intelligence. Older models of the iPad Pro, iPad Air, or the iPad Mini don't support this function. Also not in the future.

If you have the latest version of iPadOS, you automatically use Apple Intelligence. The menu with Writing Tools will appear automatically when you select a text. Don't see the AI function on your new iPad right away? You can set up Apple Intelligence yourself via the system settings.

Writing Tools is useful when you're sending a text to friends, write an email, or make a note. You can make your email to a colleague more professional or summarize a long message, for example. The Writing Tools can place the most important information in order or place everything in a list or table. Want to check the grammar or spelling mistakes in your text? Writing Tools can improve your text in a couple of seconds. You can write texts on your iPad the fastest with a keyboard cover.

In the Photos app, you can quickly find your photos. Give people and pets a name so you can search for 'Anna hugs cat Luna in the garden', for example. That way, you don't have to scroll all of your albums. Want to experience your vacation again? AI can turn your photos into a memory movie in no time. With the 'Clean Up' function, you can remove distracting objects from photos. Is there a trash can or tourist in your vacation photo, for example? You can remove them with a single click.

With Image Playground on the iPad, you can turn a sketch or description into a new, unique image. Draw your pet or food and let AI turn it into a lifelike photo. Not happy with the image? Image Playground creates different versions of the photo. With Apple Intelligence, you can also create your own emojis. Want an emoji of a cat with sunglasses and a cocktail at the beach? Type it out and Genmoji will create your own, unique emoji.

Apple Intelligence has more useful functions and will continue to add new ones. Apple Intelligence can summarize websites or audio messages for you. That's useful during a meeting or lecture, for example. You can see the most important information of the meeting at a glance. Siri also works better and can answer more difficult questions. Want to focus better? Turn on 'Reduce Interruptions' and only see important messages. You also no longer have to read entire group chats, because Apple Intelligence summarizes all messages for you.
