Nikon lenses with a DX format sensor are designed for Nikon SLR cameras with an APS C sensor. You can also attach lenses with a DX-format to a full-frame camera. You won't use the full image surface, though. The image circle of a DX lens is smaller than the sensor of a full frame camera.
