Usually I go for the more expensive and more reliable brands, I always say you get what you pay for, but since I saw this FERM milling cutter in a good offer and didn't want to spend much more than that at that moment I thought "we'll try it, I won't need it that often."
If only I had saved a little more...
At first glance, the device looks robust and sturdy, and that's how it feels when you take it in your hands. But as soon as you take a closer look and start adjusting by turning a set of bolts, you notice that especially this has been saved. Without even using the device, there appeared to be a small break in the plastic of the set screw for the depth adjustment. And speaking of the depth setting, a rod that can be slid back and forth with a separate plastic indicator holder to set the milling depth. A simple and effective way which in this case requires quality since the rod already skews when tightening the clamp bolt.
You get what you pay for I can already hear you say, and that is clear. However, it doesn't bother me that it's all a bit cheaper, I knew that when I bought it, it bothers me that we are talking about a precision device that is anything but precise due to design and manufacturing savings. When you mill a lock case, for example, you really don't want to run out half a CM, and here too it goes wrong with this router when using the supplied guide. This does not run straight when mounted in the bottom plate, unless you measure yourself and then forcefully adjust and fix it. And this is what it ultimately comes down to, names. Measure, measure and measure again, with every setting and adjustment you make, measure and adjust, because you absolutely cannot rely on the accuracy of the device.
So I can't recommend it as a router, but if you are looking for a powerful router that you are willing to modify, or want to mount under a router table, then you can probably work with this.
