According to our headphones expert
The AKG K701 is suitable for professional use by DJs and producers. The music sounds pure, because of the two-layer aperture in the drivers and the open design. In combination with the wide frequency range from 10 to 39,800Hz, you can hear both the lowest and highest tones. This makes the music sound natural, just like the artist intended. You wear the headphones for hours without any issue, because of the comfortable over-ear design. The velvet ear cushions fall over your ears. With the included screwable 6.3mm adapter, you can connect the headphones to your DJ and studio equipment.

After using the AKG K240 Studio headphones with full satisfaction for several years, I switched to the AKG K701 about 3 months ago. The difference is really staggering! Don't get me wrong, I still think that the AKG K240 Studio is a very good pair of headphones in its price range (around ?100,=), but it clearly loses out to its younger brother, the AKG K701 .
Headphones have no trouble at all with the most difficult passages in busy rock songs or pieces of classical music for example. You get a beautiful, controlled low end at all times, paired with a very impressive midrange and sparkling clear highs, without even giving the feeling that it is too shrill or that it is starting to get messy.
The headphones have a very nice spatial sound, super nice stereo reproduction. Even in the beginning I regularly had the feeling that I had left my living room speakers on, these headphones sound so spacious.
The bass reproduction of the headphones is never exaggerated, but very realistic at all times and can really go very far into the deep. If you only listen to dance music and you want mega loud bass, then I would look for other headphones. If you want headphones that can be very powerful in the low end, without overdoing it, then you will be very happy with the AKG K701!
The midrange but also the highs of these headphones are simply breathtaking. I hear details in songs that I've never heard before, like a small subtle guitar strum, which before was always drowned out by other, louder instruments. Vocals sound like never before. With some singers you just hear the saliva in the mouth, the breathing, everything is clearer, clearer. No sound is lost anymore, you hear / notice everything!
I compared these headphones with a Sennheisser HD650 for an hour and I have to conclude that they are very evenly matched. The Sennheisser offers a little more bass, but it has to give up something in terms of spatiality/stereo image. Add to that the fact that Sennheisser has less pleasant wearing comfort, then the AKG K701 is really the winner here in my opinion.
Pros: Super transparent (honest) sound, from low to high Special spatial sound (stereo image) Super wearing comfort
Cons: Not cheap Less suitable for the loud bass oriented dance lovers. (not a minus for me, but maybe for others)

Incredibly beautiful sound, fantastically nuanced. Every tone and instrument (whether classical or Armin van Buuren) comes through crystal clear. This is listening to music as it should be. Hats off to AKG!!! And then I haven't even mentioned the sublime design (After all, the eye also wants to be caressed, right?) Okay, the price is admittedly on the high side, but a set of in-ears can easily reach around 80 euros. Then I'd rather spend a little more on guaranteed unparalleled quality. And don't forget our musicians: they deserve to be listened to optimally :-))

THE BEST HEADPHONES I HAVE HEARD SO FAR!! ORDERED IT ONLINE IN THE AFTERNOON AT CONSOLESHOP AND IT WAS ALREADY DELIVERED THE NEXT DAY!
After much deliberation and endless Googling, I took the plunge and purchased these AKG K701 headphones. I have had Sennheiser, Philips, Sony and Beyerdynamic headphones before, but these did not meet my expectations. The Beyerdynamic was almost as good as this AKG but started to vibrate annoyingly with the bass.
It must be said that this AKG needs about 40 hours of play-in time before it starts to sound fantastic, but I knew that beforehand by reading several reviews about these headphones. So I let it play for 2 days in a row without interruption and now it does indeed sound much better than in the beginning, when there were hardly any basses to be heard! And with longer playing it would sound even better, that promises :-)
It actually sounds so good now that I feel like listening to my entire CD collection again, all songs get a new dimension, I now hear instruments that I had never noticed before!! The basses go deep but never start to hum and do not dominate the other tones, everything sounds as it should. I also put it on for gaming, my surround amplifier converts the signal to Dolby Headphone, now I have the impression that I am in the middle of the game and can point out where the sounds around me are coming from, great!!
Wearing comfort is also very good with soft ear pads and a self-tensioning headband.
Long story short, buy these headphones, you won't regret it! And you won't find it cheaper than here!
Have fun listening and gaming :-)
