The Logitech Harmony Elite is the key to more comfort in your home. This remote is universal, in the literal sense of the word: not only does it operate your audio and video devices, it also operates the smart devices in your home. The Elite is suitable for more than 250,000 different devices, including NEST thermostats, Philips HUE's smart lighting, and SONOS audio systems.
Create moments with Harmony Activities, such as a movie night. With 1 push of a button, your TV and audio systems will turn on, lights are dimmed, and blinds are lowered. The Harmony Hub transforms your smartphone and tablet into a remote. Connect the Hub with your WiFi network and control the lights and thermostat, even when you're not home.
On the Logitech compatibility page you'll see whether the Harmony database supports your device.
We're extremely satisfied with this device: it helped us go from using 4 different remotes, to only this one.
A hidden gem that I only found out after purchasing: this system allows you to control your AVR, DVD, etc, *even if they're behind a wall or closed cabinet*. We're about to replace our TV cabinet, so this single feature removed any constraints on which type of cabinet we're going to be able to choose from!
All other features are great: it supports tons of devices and is highly customizable. It can even control your lighting to set the right mood (if you have a compatible lightning system).
PRICE: I actually think price is OK! As a systems engineer, I can imagine how much effort it is to keep this device compatible with literally thousands of multimedia devices over the years. So I'm sure a bit of the price goes to keeping this device relevant over the years, and that's awesome for both existing and new users.
Several things are not that great though:
* The setup process isn't grandpa-proof. That's ok though, grandpa wouldn't even know to buy this device.
* The user interface for all mobile and desktop apps is outright TERRIBLE. They could use a serious UX upgrade.
* Making any changes to the setup takes ages, because the apps try to sync with the remote hub constantly. The overall process would feel much better if some of those syncs run in the background instead of making you wait for every little thing.
The idea is awesome. They even have logos of the channels on my cable provider. Quality of the materials is also good. The only problem is the remote whici is not easy to set up. It took me few days to do it. But when it was done, it worked perfectly.
