After testing many routers from Netgear and Apple, this ACS router from Linksys appears to work the best. Both in terms of range and throughput speed. The latter has really improved a lot. Sending large files to my NAS is insanely fast compared to the Airport extreme I had before. I now have two of these routers. 1 of them as the main router issuing the DHCP addresses and 1 as a wired bridge.
