With a heavy heart I have decided to put the Gear S3 Classic back in the box. It is a beautiful watch, but in the end it turned out to be a story of "just not". I thought it was interesting to buy a nice watch that I could also use during my training sessions. That's why I specially bought an extra silicone strap, so that I didn't have to sweat in the leather strap. Unfortunately, I soon found out that the heart rate monitor only works when you sit motionless. As soon as you are on the bike, it will remind you not to move for a while, otherwise it will not be able to register your heart rate. Well.... Not that it matters much, because most sports apps (I use Nike's running app, for example) don't support the watch. You are therefore obliged to switch to the Under Armor app, which is chock full of advertisements (unless you pay) and is actually not user-friendly. Then listen to music, because hurrah, as an enthusiastic Spotify user I was delighted to learn that they had developed an app for tizen. Unfortunately, it turns out that you can't download spotify playlists on your watch, so you can only stream via your mobile phone or wifi. That means I still have to carry my cell phone with me when I go jogging, but why do I still need the watch? To operate the music, yes, although that is also possible with the native music player that is included as standard. After a while I was wondering why I paid so much money for this. It's nice to check the weather forecast with a quick swipe, calling with the watch went well, and quickly answering a text with "yes" or "ok" without having to pry your smartphone out of your jeans is certainly handy, but all in all insufficient for this budget.

What bothers me the most about this watch are the included watch straps. Good quality, but way too small. Even the supplied "large" model only just closes in the last hole, leaving the closure in an awkward place on the wrist. Is this watch designed for 8 year old boys? It is a pity that Samsung is still unable to supply Dutch-language S-Voice. Answering an SMS in English (voice to text) works well.

I doubted for a long time whether or not to buy this smartwatch. Is it actually necessary? Am I going to use all the features? Can it make a difference in my life? The answer to all these questions is different for everyone, but overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. I bought the Samsung Gear s3 as a "second chance", which pushed the price down a bit (pluses for Coolblue to offer a service as second chance!!).
Price: This immediately brings me to my first and biggest downside, the price. It's an expensive smartwatch, is it worth the money? For me, yes. Again, this is purely subjective, do you use the features that the watch has to offer, do you attach great importance to a sleek and beautiful design, do you like to switch styles on your watch? Then you might pay this price more easily. I personally thought the new price was a bit too expensive, so I went for a second chance. Absolutely no regrets, the watch arrived in near perfect condition (as stated) and I am very glad I took the chance. I can only advise anyone who would consider buying this watch, but find the new price too expensive, to also take a look at the current second chances.
Design: It is a sleek, beautiful and modern design. I like how it looks. At the moment I'm using the large digital watchface, which goes very well with the silver bezel. Everyone I meet can only confirm that this smartwatch has a great appearance! What might disturb some people are the dimensions of the smartwatch. It is a bit thicker than a regular watch, but I also have larger wrists/hands, so I personally don't suffer from this. The round bezel provides an intuitive use of the Gear S3, making navigating through a menu very simple.
Battery life: Nothing to complain about. With normal use, the watch lasts two days on 1 charge. Charging the battery is also very easy as the packaging doubles as a charging station. This is currently next to my laptop or on my bedside table, where I can put on my watch in a simple and safe way and it is charged immediately.
Software/Apps: This is both a plus and a minus. The advantage of the Tizen software is that it is made by Samsung for Samsung products. This means that, unlike Android Wear, the software is more in tune with the products. This makes features such as widgets & the round bezel possible. The disadvantage of this is that there are fewer apps available for this smartwatch. I personally don't have much of a problem with this. The standard apps like messages/email/alarms/calendar/... are of course present & there is a Spotify app (which works very well), these were the most important features/apps for me anyway.
SHealth: The software and apps actually also include the Samsung fitness/health application, called "SHealth". The Gear S3 also includes a heart rate monitor and GPS. Based on the data that the smartwatch detects, it can automatically detect when people are moving or sitting still. It is interesting to have data such as heart rate/distance/time available after a workout, but I personally find it more interesting when the smartwatch reminds me to stand up after an hour of sitting still. So I don't sit still all day. These are of course things that can all be set & turned off if this is not desired.
Fingerprints: It's a shame you can't use one of the side keys as a "confirm button". This would make it possible to perform certain actions on the watch, without having to press the screen with your finger. I do notice that fingerprints on the smartwatch bother me faster than on my smartphone, this could be limited by, for example, hanging a tempered glass protector on it, but I have not done this yet.
(yet) No Samsung Pay: Recently, Android Pay has also been rolled out in Belgium. Samsung Pay is expected to follow suit soon. But at the time of writing this review, this is not yet available. It would be an interesting fact that I can pay with my watch instead of with a bank card or smartphone, this is already available in other countries and I am already looking forward to the moment that this will also be available in Belgium.
Conclusion: This is a total package when it comes to smartwatches. A beautiful, sleek design, interchangeable watch faces, good battery life and extra features such as heart rate monitor and GPS. Of course, the trade-off remains how much value someone places on certain apps that may be available on Android Wear but not on Tizen. It also remains one of the more expensive smartwatches, but a second chance at Coolblue can help with this (when it is available). If anyone would hesitate to buy this smartwatch, I would immediately recommend it, it is and remains a top product!
