RODE PodMic Black

The microphone feels super sturdy when unpacking and fits well on a microphone stand. There are no bells and whistles (switches or the like), it's just the XLR cable and action. The disadvantage is that this microphone has a high impedance, which means that the input signal on my Focusrite audio interface is too small. I have to set the gain to more than 80% to get a decent signal out of it. The result is that there is too much noise, so that the recording is no longer beautiful. You have to solve this with a preamp for the microphone, but they cost more than the microphone itself. (I was therefore able to return it without any problems and exchange it for a membrane microphone)

Attention! The Rode Podmic was initially designed and optimized for use in conjunction with the Rodecaster Pro. That combination is ideal and coordinated. This means that you can get a different sound quality when used with a different mixer or recording device. The dynamic microphone is very solid and stands like a duck when using the right tripod. Ideal when using a studio microphone arm as e.g. K&M or Yellowtec. Great sound. Disturbing background noises are excellently suppressed.

I was looking for the perfect microphone to podcast, stream and record vocals for my band. This microphone is a bargain and is seen as a formidable competitor to the popular Sure SM7B. The latter has more body but for the price you just can't beat the PODmic, super microphone with nice sound. Output is just like the Sure SM7B on the low side so you will have to use a boost such as a Cloudlifter or a cheaper Fethead but then you have something. Too bad that no protective cover is included, but at this price I can live with that.
