According to our television expert
With the Sony OLED KD-55AG9, you can enjoy a true-to-life image display. This stylish TV has an OLED screen. This ensures deep black levels and a powerful contrast, because every pixel on this screen lights up and produces colors individually. Combined with the Ultimate X1 processor, the TV delivers an extra colorful and natural image display, and a powerful upscaling of images in a lower resolution than 4K. You won't miss a single detail, no matter what image source you use. The Acoustic Surface audio system consists of double drivers and subwoofers. The screen functions as a speaker, so the sound reproduction is extra realistic. When you connect the TV to a home cinema set, you can effortlessly use it as a center speaker.

The Sony AG9 has been in use for a few days now. Coming from an XE9305. I like TV just fine. However, the center speaker function took a while before it was satisfactory. There is clearly a delay in the TV of a few milliseconds compared to a normal center speaker, which results in a clearly audible distorted sound image. I solved this by running the autocalibration of the receiver a few times. The receiver "thinks" that the center is 8.50 meters away, while this is actually 3.30 meters. The fronts are at 3.50 meters, the center (virtual) at 8.50 meters, but the sound image is now really OK. Voices are well placed and watching and listening to a movie is a real pleasure. Typical of that delay, but I can imagine that people who don't make that adjustment are now listening and wondering why that center sounds so jerky. Still, one thing to keep in mind.
If you watch TV a lot during the day in a brightly lit room, then OLED is not what you are looking for and choose (or keep) a good LED TV. I mean, daytime viewing is fine with the AG9, but the XE9305 had a dash for that. During the day I hardly watch TV and otherwise I can lower the screens. In summary, the wow factor of oled is not there during the day, all the more in the evening.

We are very impressed with the picture and sound quality of this TV. Sony has made a big step in development if you compare this TV with our current Sony Bravia of 7 years old! The installation was very simple, HDMI cable in and after going through a few simple steps in the installation menu, everything works. Image quality is extremely sharp, warm and we haven't even had a chance to judge it in 4k quality. So the performance can be even better! I immediately called KPN to expand my subscription with a 4k package, definitely do it! when you buy this TV. We are also impressed with the sound, with many TVs this is often disappointing and you quickly need a home cinema set to get the optimal experience. This TV already has a top set built in, so even without a home cinema set you have a super sound. Also new are the Netflix and Google play buttons on the remote control, very handy! You can clearly see that Netflix and Sony have worked together to display Netflix as optimally as possible on the TV. You can set the screen of the TV to cinema display and then you have a full screen image. Very cool for watching Netflix movies and series. Sony has also tackled the design tightly, no more ugly logo mentions, but a sleek black color with a subtle on/off lighting and logo mention. What you can of course expect from a Sony TV is that it is optimally suitable for Playstation! And that is completely correct. With a very sharp and warm screen-filling image, you get even more out of the gaming experience. We are therefore more than satisfied with this TV!

The TV has been installed for a week now and my first impressions are extremely positive. Had a 49 inch LED TV from Sony and even though it was only 4 years old, this is a huge leap forward in image quality. the OLED panel shines in color, black values and with HDR (bright) lights seem to really stand out. In the beginning some problems with my CI+ module, but after an update, digital TV also worked fine. Netflix movies and series are breathtakingly beautiful (especially in 4K). I also discovered the special Netflix image enhancer which reproduces the image exactly as the creators of the series intended. this is definitely true! The sound of the TV is good, but nothing special. But that is no longer the case with any TV these days. In my current setup, the sound goes to my Sony receiver which recognizes the TV and switches on immediately and the TV also switches directly from sound via the TV to the receiver. Just tested what it is like to use the TV itself on a center speaker, this is in itself a very nice option. Certainly if you still want to buy a 5.1 or 7.1 set, you basically no longer have to buy a center speaker or place it under the TV. The sound really comes from the screen (OLED panel), so that the sound is really centered and comes across. in any case gives a very good experience. The interface of the TV is as I am used to from Sony. dark (easy on the eyes instead of bright colors) and easy to scroll and operate with the remote control. Of the apps on the TV I actually only use Netflix and Spotify, which also work excellently on the TV. The remote has a high quality appearance and the buttons are easy to operate and well positioned. the voice function to give commands works properly. However, I note that I never use it because it is not faster or easier than pressing a button. To activate the voice control you have to press a button and speak. pressing a button 2 or 3x to operate the same function is usually just as fast or faster :-) Something that Sony has really thought about are the cables. You can neatly hide it everywhere and hide it with the supplied cover caps. Finally, I would like to point out that the TV also looks great in the off position. it looks like one big black glass panel. Especially the bezels which are barely there and the very thin screen at the top. It really is a showpiece in the living room.
