Dyson Spot+Scrub AI

Unfortunately, I really wouldn't recommend this product. That is a shame, because Dyson has a good reputation regarding all kinds of things involving air. Okay, this reputation might be maintained: that is, after all, the only thing that really delivers top-notch work. The rest—mopping, noise, intelligence, and the application—really didn't turn out well.

As mentioned, the suction result is excellent. It picks up almost everything and has little trouble with, for example, leaves in the hallway or my daughter's play sand. The brushes on both sides work well, and emptying it into the charging station is also flawless.

The mopping function works less flawlessly. Ironically, the mop itself leaves wet spots behind due to a combination of maneuvering, the extension of the blades, and the dampening level. Still: I expected better, and it happens quite often. However, the mop does manage to reach corners by being able to extend to both the left and the right. During vacuuming and mopping, the robot naturally makes noise, but that is understandable and quite manageable when you consider that it is working hard. Incidentally, it moves quite quickly and in neat lanes. After vacuuming and mopping, the robot returns to the station. Then you think: okay, just empty and clean. But beware: drying the mops takes at least 3 hours, cannot be turned off by default (although it can be done in the app), and sounds like a hairdryer (on a low setting) is running continuously. That is incredibly annoying... so bad that my wife didn't even have to veto it because I already pointed out myself that this is not a keeper. If you can let it clean at night, with another 3-4-5 hours to dry: then it is fine. As long as you don't want to quickly clean something in between. Honestly: with a robot vacuum, you really do like to let it do its rounds or clean that one room in between... With this one, you'll think twice about that! Then there's the intelligence and the application. Here too, it seems as though Dyson is pioneering and relying on gimmicks... You can add furniture to the floor plan, but the type of surface or mopping direction cannot be adjusted. You also cannot draw rugs in beforehand; you will have to add a 'vacuum only' zone. Furthermore, the floor plan is not exactly sharp or high-quality, does not seem to improve with use, and thresholds and floor-to-ceiling windows are not always recognized. Adding them afterwards isn't exactly intuitive either, and sometimes it's simply impossible. You might think: but surely the device is smart enough, with even 'AI' in the name. Not exactly, or rather: I didn't notice it while it got stuck under the dining table chairs, failed to recognize the round shape of the coffee table, and literally jammed itself under a piece of furniture, resulting in scratches. Oh right: the button on top doesn't always work as an emergency solution either...

We have not had the best experiences with this device. It leaves a lot of foam behind (even without soap), causing the floor to be stained after mopping.

I have been using this Dyson for a while now, so I have been able to form a solid opinion.

First of all, I will start with the installation. The app is downloaded in no time, and so is the robot vacuum. The Dyson goes through your house and creates a map automatically. This works quite well, and I didn't have to adjust anything. Personally, however, I find the app quite unclear. I also have experience with apps from other brands and feel that Dyson still has some room for improvement in this regard.

As for the design, I think it is a nice robot vacuum, provided, of course, that you like the color black. The robot vacuum is slightly larger in size, but when compared to other robot vacuums with the same functions, the Dyson is actually quite compact. In a way, the size makes sense given the number of functions. What I would have preferred to be different is the transparency of the dustbin. It is nice to see that it is working, but I could have done without that.

Now regarding the robot vacuum's performance. I am pleasantly surprised. The robot recognizes obstacles well, and thanks to the green light, it misses virtually no dirt. A major plus is that it is quite quiet during cleaning and emptying.

The mopping function is ideal and leaves your floor thoroughly clean. You can choose from three different wetness settings. The lowest setting is actually sufficient. The Dyson uses warm water and returns to its base occasionally during mopping for fresh water and to clean its brush. A downside is the fact that no cleaning solution is included. You would expect this in this price range. I therefore had to purchase this myself afterwards.

All in all, I consider the Dyson a valuable addition to my household. However, I must say that I find the price quite steep, and I believe there are cheaper robots on the market with virtually the same functions.
