The new MacBook Air M5 is a lightweight, powerful MacBook from Apple. With the fast processor, I open games and large apps smoothly. I only connect accessories via the 2 Thunderbolt ports, and I miss an HDMI connection for easily connecting an external display.
Beautiful, high-quality design
The new MacBook Air is a beautiful, high-quality finished MacBook, just as I have come to expect from Apple. The casing is made of aluminum, which keeps the MacBook very light but still feels sturdy. I chose the black version, since my entire wardrobe is black and I like to have everything in one color. Unfortunately, I quickly see fingerprints and dirt on this color. Also, the casing looks dark blue under certain lighting conditions; that is less my style.
Few connections
Unfortunately, the MacBook Air has few connections for accessories. For instance, on the side, I only find a MagSafe port, 2 Thunderbolt connections, and a headphone jack. With these, I can easily connect my phone or other accessories to the MacBook. Unfortunately, the MacBook Air does not have an HDMI connection or an SDXC card slot. I don't connect it to a monitor to show something to colleagues. For that, I need a separate docking station.
Bright and colorful Liquid Retina display
On the 13-inch screen, I enjoy sharp images and bright colors. This MacBook supports TrueTone, which adjusts colors to the ambient light. As a result, images look better on the MacBook Air than on the MacBook Neo, even though they both have a Liquid Retina display. Because this MacBook has a smaller 13-inch screen, I can easily take it with me on the go. The MacBook fits easily in my bag, allowing me to easily keep working even at the coffee shop around the corner. However, it is more difficult to open multiple apps side by side on the small screen. If you often work in large or detailed apps, I recommend the larger 15-inch screen.
M5 processor for demanding apps
Of course, I also want to test the processor of this new MacBook. To do so, I download TeamFight Tactics, a game where a lot is happening at once. Yet, the MacBook Air has no problems with this. Everything loads quickly, and I play without any lag. Even when a lot is happening at once, the MacBook continues to run smoothly. Even when I subsequently work with apps like Adobe Photoshop, my MacBook keeps running smoothly. This allows me to open photo files in high quality and perform heavy edits. Even when I am on the go.
