How do I connect my Sonos Playbar or Playbase?
What do you need?
- Optical cable.
- Power cable.
- Wifi network and the associated password.
- Smartphone or tablet connected to the Wifi network.
- The Sonos Controller app.
Note: it is important to place the PlayBar or Playbase in a place with room to use the Sonos buttons. These are buttons that can be found on the side of the devices.
Step 1: Connect the Sonos device to the power outlet
Connect your Playbar or Playbase to the power outlet. This is done with the supplied power cable.
Step 2: open the Sonos controller app
If you have downloaded the app, you will find it between the applications of your smartphone or tablet. Open the app and press to install a new Sonos system. Then select the default installation and press next.
Step 3: boot
During startup, the light on the top of your Sonos Playbase will light up white. At the Sonos Playbar this light is on the side.
Note: you may notice that you see other colors or nothing. When in doubt, click I doubt the light. Then the app explains what you need to do to continue to the next step.
Step 4: connect your smartphone or tablet to the network
You skip this step if you have an Android smartphone or tablet. The Android operating system automatically connects to the Sonos speaker. Close the Sonos Controller app by pressing the home button on your iPhone or iPad. Then go to your wifi settings. Between the list of available networks you can see the name of your Sonos device. Press this name and return to the Sonos Controller app.
Step 5: setting up the speaker
The app now indicates that the Playbar or Playbase has been found. Set up this player. Then click on go to configuring accessories. Then you select the home network with which you want to connect the SONOS device. Click on next. After this, the configuration is complete and your speaker is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
Step 6: readying the speaker for use
Click twice in succession on the next and then on this player. Then you press the Sonos button on your Playbase.
This step is slightly different with the Playbar installation. On the side of your Playbar, press the volume up and volume off button. Keep these buttons pressed simultaneously until the light flashes white.
Step 7: the Playbar or Playbase has been added
Your Sonos device has been successfully added. Press next and select the room where the speaker will be placed.
Step 8: switch off the TV
Switch off the TV and tap Next. A screen will now appear giving you 2 options: 'Add a SUB' or 'Not now'. Tap 'Not now'. You can always add a SUB (subwoofer) later.
A next step will now appear. The app will ask you if you want to add surround speakers. For now, tap 'Not now', since you can always do this later. The article below can help you with that.
Step 9: tap Next and turn the TV on with sound
We will now connect the Playbar or Playbase to your TV. You do this via the included optical cable. First remove the protective caps from the optical cable. Connect the optical cable to the digital audio out output of your TV. Connect the other side of the optical cable to the SONOS device. Then press next. Set up a movie or TV program. \ N \ nNote: you will not hear sound from your Sonos Playbase or Playbar yet. \ N \ nThen click next. The TV is successfully connected with your Sonos device.
Step 10: TV audio settings
Use your remote control from your TV to go to settings and go to sound settings. Press external speakers. This ensures that the speakers of your TV are switched off and the sound is sent to your Sonos device.
Step 11: successfully connected
You now hear sound coming from your Playbase or Playbar. To add music services to the Sonos Controller app, you must register an account. Enter your e-mail address and then press next. After this you give the app access to use your location. Press next in the 2 following screens. Allows the app to store your user data and finish the installation around you.
