Garmin Pay: what is it and how does it work?
At the end of October 2018, Garmin introduced the Garmin Pay payment service in Belgium together with Mastercard and FitPay. If you have a debit card from one of the participating European banks, you can make contactless payments with your Garmin smartwatch thanks to Garmin Pay. In this article, you can read what Garmin Pay is and how it works exactly.
What's Garmin Pay?
Garmin Pay is the payment service Garmin has on their smartwatches. With Garmin Pay, you can make contactless payments via your Garmin smartwatch. Garmin Pay was first announced in November 2017, but wasn't yet available in Belgium. This has been possible since October 2018. A condition for this is that you must have a debit card from one of the participating banks.
How does Garmin Pay work?
- Step 1: Active your payment card in the banking app on your smartphone.
- Step 2: Go to the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone. In the menu, click on 'Garmin Pay'. Step 3: Choose your Garmin device. You'll now create a PIN code you can later use to pay.
- Step 4: Enter the information of your credit card. Go through all the steps, and your card will be connected.
- Step 5: The first time you pay, you'll need to enter the PIN code.
Which Garmin watch can I use to pay?
To make contactless payments, the watch needs to have an NFC chip. Basically all Garmin smartwatches from 2022 and newer have this. That means you can use all of these Garmin smartwatches to make contactless payments.
