A 144Hz monitor displays images smoothly. Because the screen refreshes 144 times per minute, you won't suffer from lags during gaming. This is especially nice with fast games such as shooters and racing games. Combine this with a low response time, such as a 1ms 144hz gaming monitor, if you want to play even smoother. In addition, a G sync game monitor prevents screen tearing if you have an NVIDIA video card. Freesync does this for AMD video cards. Note: most video cards can handle a maximum of 144Hz at Full HD resolution. With a very powerful GPU, you can also game in QHD with 144Hz. Gaming in 4K resolution at 144Hz isn't possible yet. You can of course alternate between a high resolution and a high refresh rate.
