Audio-Technica ATH-M20X

The headphones are much nicer than some (cheaper and more expensive) headphones we have. Kids think so too, and now use it to watch YouTube without hesitation.

I bought the Audio-Technica ATH-M20X because I wanted to use headphones at work that I could also leave there. I am quite fussy about sound quality and am always looking for a neutral sound reproduction. That way I hear it exactly as the artist intended. At home I have three other headphones, the Shure SRH 840, Sennheiser RS160 and Sennheiser RS180. I was able to compare this Audio-Technica ATH-M20X with these headphones. These headphones are all between 120 and 180 euros, so how close will the M20X come? The Audio Technica ATH-M20X delivers an astonishingly good (neutral) audio reproduction for 50 euros. No better than the more expensive headphones I have at home, but with so little difference that I have to do my best when switching between the headphones to hear the difference. That is, considering the M20X is at least 70 euros cheaper, an excellent result. The M20X is great for listening to music and watching movies for a normal budget. It is of course also suitable for gaming, but when playing shooters, gamers often do not want to hear a neutral reproduction in order to hear footsteps extra well. The die-hard shooter gamer might want to look further afield, but in the case of racing and strategy games, for example, these headphones are really great. It is lightweight and fairly solidly built, but not suitable for everyone to take with you in public transport, for example. He is just too fragile for that and his extra long cable is not useful either. However, normal use on a desk or in the home should last for years. The wearing comfort is not perfect but certainly good enough to wear for several hours at a time. The M20X does not have a design that stands out. Because of the neutral design, it can actually be used anywhere.

Being able to extend a little further to adjust properly would have been nicer.
