I've been waiting a lifetime for virtual reality (VR). For a long time it was science fiction, later unaffordable and with poor image quality.
In 2012, Oculus launched a kickstarter campaign to fund the Rift, and when it proved a huge success, Facebook acquired the company in 2017.
And now the Oculus Go has arrived. Wow!
Those who want to play heavy games should choose the Rift. Unfortunately, you have to buy a sturdy PC and graphics card for that.
Anyone who wants to experience virtual reality in all its aspects will get real value for money with the Go.
The great thing about the Go is that you are not tied to cables. All hardware is built into the headset.
However, do not expect a razor-sharp image and large field of view as you see with your eyes. The development of virtual reality is not that far yet. The Rift does not have that image quality either.
Is the image quality of the Go not good? No, that's fine!
Although you can still see the pixels very small, that is not very disturbing.
There is also a bit of a box vision, but that doesn't get in the way of the many wow effects I experienced.
The range of virtual reality experiences, apps and videos is very large and that is of course great.
The headset is very accessible and intuitive to use with clear menus.
The supplied pointer is a fine example of advanced technology with which you can point and click on everything very easily and precisely in VR via a beam of light or scroll with a small touchpad.
Have been using the Go for 2 weeks now and have a lot of fun with it. Also funny to observe how other people experience him.
I also bought it because I consciously want to contribute to the promotion and development of VR. The more people buy VR headsets, the greater the chance that it will become a worldwide success and even better headsets and applications will be developed.
VR is fun for all kinds of entertainment, but can also be used therapeutically for phobias, social inhibitions or fear of flying. But also to give bedridden or very disabled people a 'trip'. Although virtual, the experience of sitting on a beach in a tropical country or being in the mountains with a beautiful view, reality is enough to make you feel happy or relaxed.
