A nice NAS for beginners and advanced storage enthusiasts.

Powerful processor and enough (expandable) memory
Software comprehensive -and- user-friendly at the same time. You can do anything with it.
NAS itself very quiet
No hard drive is -really- silent. Do not put in the bedroom.

Have been using Synology for years. Always been pleased with it and the DS218+ is no exception. Installation is child's play, and starting with your NAS is nothing. However, with a fast processor and enough (possibly expandable) memory, you can expand it considerably in the coming years without running out of power. Experience shows that you buy a NAS for 2 tasks, and do a lot of other tasks on it in no time. Then you don't want to get in trouble with a slower model.

The attached Seagate Ironwolf HDD also works well. Relatively quiet and economical, and they are fast drives. Note that no hard drive is really quiet, so don't put it in your bedroom or on your desk where you work.
